June 2023 Buck Of The Month BOTM - The 55 - Ironwood, 154 CM, Pewter Medallion

I'm a sucker (big fan) for Ironwood. The 55 will look great next to my 120 BOTM in ironwood
Looking forward to seeing some of these once they arrive.
Its a lockback, not a slip joint.
I'm going to dither until they're sold out ;)

I like the 55 and carry one. That said I have a brass/walnut that was a gift, and two of the ebony/brass which are fine looking knives. A buck fifty is just too high. Plus I was so disappointed at the appallingly sloppy construction of the last BOTM I ordered (brass/micarta 2 blade 301) that its just to much dinero. Maybe at $100. Sure is pretty though...🤔
You are correct, not a slip joint. I must have had my Case knives about that size on the mind.

I think the accounting department at Buck has decided to encourage resellers (or don't care, as you said, and are just doing their job - selling knives) as some of the past few BOTM have had a purchase limit of 10, or no limit at all. Up from the usual 3 knife limit.
It seems like the acounting department thinks purchasing shelves is a good tax write off.

It’s a nice little knife but I have a couple of 55 already and they are just a bit small for me. I will be giving them to my grandkids. But I do like to see when you guys get em .

I like the 55 and I like ironwood. What I am hoping for is some ironwood with good figure. Hoping for good figure is a real crapshoot. I wonder if the wood on the knife for the sales photo is representative.

yeah we all do....what's wrong with the 154cm?
I can't speak for Hickory n steel Hickory n steel , but I'll explain for myself.
I prefer all of the Buck models that I'm interested in buying just be made in 420HC or 5160 and maybe D2. Any other steel than that is kind of a turn off to some degree and I have to ask myself if that's going to be a deciding factor in my purchase decision. In some cases it's yes, and in some cases it's no. It has nothing to do with the steel, but yet it does. Weird, huh?

yeah kinda, but its how ya do it.

d2 over 154cm....thats weird to me.
but everyone likes what they like and I get that.

keep in mind on 154cm.... Bob Loveless went to 154cm in 1972 to improve his knives. he switched not long after to ats34 as it was cleaner back then. it's basically the same steel but Japan made.

i just cant see 154cm or cpm154 being a turn off to anyone unless they want the latest and greatest steels....
