I think it is INCREDIBLY COOL that Jerry Busse took the time to analyze the knife and then explain to you exactly what happened. You can always tell when someone not only knows their shit inside and out but is so passionate about it that they're never too busy to talk about it with anyone. That gets a huge thumbs up in my book.

You could turn your knife-abuse habits into a business. HI has a "break-it-and-we'll-give-you-two" warranty. So far they've never been called on it. I say you go for it.

No, please don't. HI changed their policy awhile back to limit it to the original owner because a small number of cretins were buying used ones cheaply, smashing them with sledgehammers, sending them back for new ones, and then selling the new ones on eBay. Also, the break it and get two free only applied to the Chiruwa Ang Khola, all the rest you only get one free one if you break it. :D

Seriously though, there are only a handful of knife companies out there that have no questions asked replacement gurantees like Swamp Rat, Busse, and HI. I hate to see people abusing that goodwill by shooting their knives with high powered rifles and beating on them with pipe wrenches and sledgehammers for hours.

Man, he would probably break his arm before he would be able to break a Chiruwa Ang Khola, which is what the "Break or bend it and get two free" warranty applies to.

This is a very interesting thread that shows the awesome customer service of the Busse Knife company. Like mentioned before, there are very few companies such as HI, Swamp Rat, Busse and Ranger Knives that offer these unconditional warranties. Sure makes you feel good about your blade that they have this much confidence in their products! Good on ya!

What stands out strongly to me is how the company and the representatives reacted, no insults, no degredation - and you know that right now Jerry is trying to figure out how to make his knives take 8 hours of pounding with a wrench and still be high performance cutting tools.

 Busse and SRKW certainly have their shortcomings, but it's things like this that really shine and stand out in the end. Makes me proud to own my meager selection of these blades.

Not to thread jack but Wicked 1, where are you located??? I have a bandit also and we could share some tips if you like. Hit me up in PM or Email if ya like...

Well I didnt think it caused a problem because it was still in one piece when I was done.

That's a classic case of metal fatigue. They look fine untill they suddenly let go.

Aluminum is known to fail that way. Steel is usually ductile enough that it bends before it breaks.

Eight hours of battoning with a pipe wrench? I think it did pretty well.

SR101 is known to spring back from large bends, perhaps this quality hid the dammage caused by the battoning and bending untill it was too late.

If that's the limit I will have to exceed to break one of my Rats, they are all safe.

I'm glad I took the time to read the entire thread.

Eight hours of pipe wrench beating and it went home in one piece....wow...

That is some knife...

One look at this thread...and I, too, had to order an M-6.

When it finally comes, I somehow doubt I'll feel the need to beat on it with a pipewrench for even one hour. But I will be giving it a traditional workout -- and fully expecting it to survive.

The first M6 that was damaged by Wicked was sent back to the shop and later bent to 70 degrees, hammered into an anvil so that it stuck and then batoned into the anvil with no additional problems (except being bent and dull)

Where's the pic's?

I wanta see a knife getting beat into an anvil.

After reading this thread, I'm DEFINITELY now convinced that I have made a VERY wise choice in my SR-101 investments!

Yippie! :D

Eric, you posted some pictures of me beating my basic #9 with a claw hammer to split some seasoned wood a couple years ago. The pics are no longer available when I go to the post. Is there anyway to pull up old pics?
Those pics were brutal.

Hey Guys,
Let's not start attacking Wicked on this. He has supplied the info and the pics you wanted. There is no need for any accusations.

And FWIW, I have hammered on the spine of my knives with a claw hammer. I don't do this often but I have done it without any problems

Full marks to Eric for shooting down a potential it-was-the-customer's-fault story.

Well I didnt think it caused a problem because it was still in one piece when I was done.I know that the use was a little excessive. It sure was a helluva lot of fdun and a helluva workout. I just assumed it wouldnt give becuae it lived through that. From now on I will stick to hitting it with wood. He explained how the pipe wrench's cast iron was harder than the spine on a differentially tempered knief and thats why it moved the metal all around and the fact that the whole blade was in the wood wedged in no wjhere for the harmonic vibrations to go but into the blade since the tip couldnt resonate or dampen. I should og used a bigger knife and it would of helfd out longer but still bad due to the metal hardness differemnces. Next tiem it will be wood mallet or a big old limb. I was so amazed that it held that long I thought it was invincible. Pretty close but it does ave limits. I told him about my idea of the FBM and a sledge hammer and he said that it wasnt a good idea unless I had a custom one made with a softer metal so it would bend under such sever e use with a laugh. Back to using wood to baton it through except emergenct.y It wasnt a lemon just me.

Wicked - what are you???? I have a picture in my mind of something that's half bigfoot and half wolverine...

You're doing some fairly extreme things. You need to r-e-l-a-x before you hurt yourself. I can understand why (and I am very sorry to hear of your loss) but don't you think your wife would have wanted you to take better care of yourself?

I'm sorry for the loss of your wife. The grieving process can be long and very
painful. The fact that you lost the love of your life hurts even more. To share
your soul, dreams, and future with a wife is one of Gods greatest gifts. Our women
complete us. I came home from work in March carrying our income tax refund of
$1,900.00 my wife and I we going to Chinese dinner at our favorite restaurant. I
came home and found her face down in the wash basin in our laundry room. She had been dead for about 3 hours. I tried, I cried, I cursed God. Every name possible. I hated everything and everyone. I hurt inside all the time. I know how you must feel. My wife had just turned 41 years young just 20 days prior.
I hope and pray the we will find a reason to laugh again. To love again? Only
God will decide that for me. I'm not ready to give my heart and soul again.
Not yet. God Bless you man. I hope you get better every day as do I.
Peace.
P.S> 145 mph rants to meet your wife won't help your loved ones here. Be careful
brother OK?
