Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

The stag for Monday through Saturday. The tortoise for Sunday and life would be complete!

The customer is one lucky person!
What a set - right off the planet!!
Nice work, Ken!! Great Stag application!!

I trust the change is positive.

It is,will be :)

Thanks again for the kind comments on my work guys, very much appreciated.

Ken they both turned out great but the torty is special indeed! Congrats on another couple of fine builds.

Actually, these are monumental, a bit like great architecture left for future generations to savour. What an achievement!

Let me add my name to the list of admirers. I have been watching a lot of your videos Ken and I am amazed at your precision and detail. A true master craftsman that is willing to share his knowledge is admirable. The finished knives are truly amazing and I hope to own one in the future.

Yes Dave, this could be pay per view, thankfully not.I would have been shocked to have saw anything less.

Right you are Lyle, I have been reading "Roosters are crowing for the Farmers", "Old Knves" and other posts on the fine knives you love and collect and find your collection and information very impressive. But the custom FJ knife that Ken made is just unbelievable in its detail and beauty, any Sheffield cutler-er would be jealous. Congratulations on receiving this (any word here would be an understatement) knife..............!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a bit of teaser photo. I have been working on a Sheffield style large sportsman's knife for a while now. As you page thru the Sheffield Exhibition book you will notice a pretty good collection of these large 5 to 5 1/2 multi-blade sleaveboard type knives that feature a varied selection of blades and implements, and covered in ivory/metal/ebony and buffalo horn. While this knife is not a exact reproduction of anyone of these knives I hope to capture the intent.
After many days of making patterns and cutting parts along with heat treating I have the knife together and roughly fit-up with all springs working as they should.

Here are some of the specs,

5 1/4 closed
7 hinged blades/implements Large master spear, pen blade, coping blade, scissors, cigar fork, corkscrew and 3 cornered awl.
2 slide outs, pricker and tweezers.
Bolsters with checkered black Buff horn covers.

I've been curious as to how you were going to cover this one, great choice! I had to pull out my copy of this book to look at an example of the checkered horn and it's really a great look.

I am really excited on the checkered horn. Think its going to work very well with this one.

Very interesting Ken, and outstanding work as always. Looking forward to seeing more of this one

These are the first set of "decent" photos. I have been using my tablet camera.
These scissors are a first for me and have been happy with the results thus far. Every grind and swedge added make these look, feel and work like they should.

Have a few of Ken's knives and I really have not seen one I did not like of the ones he and many others have posted, but this one has been driving me nuts. I can not wait to see more of the progression.
