Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I just looked at the clock and realized that I've been looking at the photos of the stockman for a loooong time. :o I like the well shot (always nice to see) but that slightly angled shot of the well gives nice perspective of the grind on the main blade and the richness of the dyed bone. Someone's a lucky dog.

Shazzam Man!!! That is really a nice knife. I'm not really a multi-bladed type, but the stock-man red bone really dose it for me.

Ken, that stockman is just outstanding. The blade choice was great with that sheepsfoot and pen combination. Really nice job on the bone too, coming from a Schrade Walden peachseed fan. The choice of shield and the long pull on that clip blade really caps the whole thing off. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Between the cotton sampler, the '83 (one of my favorites too) and the stockman. WOW.

I was privileged to view the stockman in person and I am still gigglin'. What a beautiful work of art. Thank you, Ken, and, btw, thank you Elliot!

I was happy to be a midwife, Cal. And very happy to now read your comments about the knife. I hope it's everything you hoped for and more. :thumbup:

I was snoozin' when that knife appeared here! Ya snooze, ya lose!

But I see it now, and I am liking what I see! You are indeed lucky, Cal! It's big, it's beautiful, and it's by Ken E!!!!!

Thank you, Ken, and, btw, thank you Elliot!

Calvin,

I am really glad you like the stockman, it was my pleasure building this one.

Thanks guys for the very kind comments on the stockman, they are very much appreciated!

Ken,

What a Great looking knife!:thumbup: Everything from the F/F to the very spot on color and jigging! The long pull is just what the Dr. ordered!:cool: I hope that Whoever receives this one, will use it alot! ;)

I thought I might add some photos of a knife I received from Ken this week. It's one of Ken's EDC patterned knives.

It was somehow smaller than I imagined from the original photos, very elegant and dainty looking. When dropped in the pocket you wouldn't notice it is there, which is I guess the idea. Coincidentally, the handle length and blade length are pretty much the same as a standard 91mm Victorinox Swiss Army knife, which I found interesting as I guess the ergonomics of a Swiss Army knife has been pretty well thought out.

I would imagine that with its integral double bolsters/ liners and the G10 material it can probably take some abuse (not that I will be abusing this one!). It is still a reasonable size in the hand, the action is very smooth and satisfying. I like how Ken also polishes the internals of his knives. The blade is quite thin and, not that I've used it much yet, is no doubt quite a slicer. The swedge on the top is really well done and is one of my favourite features on the knife.

The black/ blue G10 handle material is also quite nice on the eye, and I've not seen a two-tone coloured version in the flesh before

Thanks Ken, it's a keeper!

Congrats on a terrific acquisition. Ken's knives have both great looks and utility.

I have his G-10 scaled stockman (the "maroon marauder" with matching oval shield) in pocket at this very moment. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Hicks,
that knife is a real beauty and it's very very very elegant. The line of the handle, and the shape of the blade, are really awesome. I love stag and bone but sometimes, to be more elegant and classy, other handle materials work better (such as wood or, in this case, G10). Congrats for this knife to both the owner, and the maker

There is another thread up on the forum right now on ergonomic knives. This one by Ken should surely qualify!

This is something I have been contemplating for quite sometime now. Starting immediately with any new knife build I will be stamping a very small (1/16 high) number on the PILE side master blade. This number will correspond to this chart denoting the blade steel used. As I use other blade steels I will be updating and adding to this chart.

1=01
2=A2
3=D2
4=ATS-34
5=154cm
6=CPM154cm
