Thanks for the suggestions on the new models. FYI, we do not have any plans for "another" Mini Mojito at this time. :(

The image on our website of the Mini Mojito is an early prototype, and is different from regular production. Thanks for reminding me to get that image changed.

-habit_, you should contact Customer Service and walk through your issue with them. Sorry for the problem

I hope the Kershaw is as slick as the original version
Now cutter17, your not going to be holding us to be a perfect as RJ's customs are you?;) That would be a standard that would be tough to live up too.
The Groove is a slippery flipper though.

juji, thanks for the compliments, I know RJ is pleased with the Groove as well.

Customer Service eh... I've sent in the Leek twice already, (once for the AO once for the tip getting bent) I'm not sure I want to have to send it in again, specially since I don't have any other knives at the moment... if it's still a problem when I get my next knife I guess I'll give customer service a call, but for now I think I'll just have to put up with it.

_habit_, it sounds like you just need to back the pivot screw off a hair. Should take care of the issue.

Well, I've been tinkering with it, but I haven't gotten any improved opening. Untightening didn't really help, and tightening just seems to lead to nowhere.

(Sorry, I don't know how to do the thumbnail thing)

If you look at the index thing, it's pretty far in there, but it still wont flip out from there! When what I'm talking about happens, it goes very close to that far in, but wont flip out the rest by itself, and I did not have this problem with my old Leek, and if I pushed the thing as far in as shown here, it would have already flipped itself out.

By the way, I took the clip off for this picture, and since the problem existed when I got it, I don't think anything got stuck in it.

Any word on the ZDP Mini Cyclone? I looked on numerous sites and can't find one, not even a preorder.

Sumpin wierd there. The tension on my leek makes the blade open to about 90 degrees. From there it's free play and anything less than 90 you hit the tension. Time to send it in, I think.

I have a leek and have had to take it about every month if i edc it to straighten the tension bar a little and regrease, try to get a graphite grease I have found it works the best, after putting it back together, I have never had it not open better then it did when I bought it, oh yeah better get some lock tight (It was these maintaince issues that made me stop carrying a leek)

When I originally got the Leek brand new the tension bar messed up after like 3 months and I had to send it in, and now that I'm having this problem... I'm going to go back to manual knives.

The AO is a nice feature, but it isn't perfect.

Funny, I had an older Leek that I EDC'd for over an year with no problems. I abused the heck out of the thing and flicked it open a million times at least :) I always liked the Leek because with the smaller lighter blade it would just fly open. Now I'm having problems with my MiniCyclone opening, I have to take it apart and clean/oil it at least once a month otherwise it opens about 80% of the way and won't go the rest of the way. I played with the pivot screw as well and it didn't help. Maybe Kershaw is putting weaker torsion bars in them now.

_habit_, a lot of our AO's work like way you just described. Our AO's do not have detents, and to ensure blades don't accidentally open in ones pocket (assuming the safety is off) they are designed so that the blade has to be manually opened to a specific "point" prior to where the torsion bar is activated. Now that point is going to vary from knife to knife, but just so everyone understands, the AO mechanism is not set to fire with a hair trigger behind it, again this is by design.
If I slowly walk my Leek blade forward while using the flipper, it doesn't open all the way either, and is similar to your experience. It does take a bit of momentum from the user to engage the AO.

The torsion bars are the same as they always have been, and we have less then 1% defective rate on all of our AO's. Sorry to the few of you that are having issues, hopefully this will not keep you from trying future Kershaw products.

Customer Service is there for you all should you need them, please call Toll-Free 800-325-2891 for assistance. Turn around time is done within days of us receiving the knife, so not to inconvenience you all.

ZDP Cyclones will be shipping next week. Model # is 1636TIZDP.

My torsion bar just broke on my Cyclone, right at the point where it bends upward it broke in half last night. I knew something was up because there was no tension on the blade when I closed it. I took it all apart today and the torsion bar was snapped in half. I lost my receipt and I've had the knife apart several times to clean it, so I highly doubt that it would be covered. I kind of like using the flipper and a flick of my wrist to open it now, I took all the torsion bar mechanism and speedsafe on/off switch out so now it is just a regular knife. Thomas, if you want to see the torsion bar I could mail it too you guys in an envelope, wouldn't cost me too much for mail, just to see if it was a QC issue or whatever you guys might do. Let me know.

FLYBYU44,

Give customer service a call and they will send you a couple of torsion bars free of charge. Like Thomas has said before, our failure rate is less than 1%, but it does happen from time to time.

Got my Groove back on yesterday! Actually just got my Groove. I started another thread with impressions of the knife. Short version: Kershaw has another winner!

Thanks Tim,

I'm really not sure why it failed, it's my fourth Kershaw knife and the only one I've had that's done this. I'm using it right now with all the speedsafe stuff out and may just keep it that way, if I change my mind I will call you guys. Thanks

The torsion bar broke on my Cyclone as well. I sent it in about 2 1/2 weeks ago and received a brand new one in the mail yesterday. I was (and am) very, very pleased with customer service. I've always been a big Kershaw fan, and this experience just reinforces that. Thanks guys.

I love this thread,
I know that it is supposed to be about Kershaw news, but it is more like a Kershaw-Family newsletter. It is like a magazine about Kershaw products, the people that make them, and the people that use them. I love Kershaw Knives. One of my favorite things to think about is which one I am going to buy next.
I know that there are no plans to further the Bump line of knives, but I own two of each.( If I like a knife I always buy two, just in case.) I don't like the scales on the Speed Bump. Let's just say that I would prefer something else, aluminium perhaps? I have tried to make new scales for it on my own and have aquired a new respect for the quality of manufacturing that I can buy from Kershaw at a very reasonable price.
To recap: I really love the Bumps and the Offsets, and I will buy two or more of any variation that is made available.

PS It seemed a little cruel for Thomas to show us his OD G-10 Spec-Bump proto type with the Strider striping

Just an FYI, Kershaw did make a Speed Bump with aluminum scales; the 1595AL model.

I received one (probably by accident) from a seller on eBay.

A different seller has been listing them periodically over the last several weeks as "1595ALBLK". Apparently, none available at the moment, but you can browse the completed auctions and drool. :)
