Kershaw Knives News Thread

Thomas , quick question, I just picked up a Storm II at Wlamart...GREAT knife....the question is they are shown as Model 1475STX...what does the "X" indicate as it is not shown that way on the Kershaw web site ?? Once again great knives....now I have 57 Kershaws......

I think the X is only on the package. I think the blade is only stamped with "1475ST" I bought mine from Walmart and the X isn't on the blade.

I would bet its a wallmart designation. Walmart buys in such bulk that they often get a slightly different code on there products. I noticed this taking back something I had purchsed form another store and forgot. Upon checking there shelves they found there version of the same product had a slightly different product code and upc.

I am of the same thinking- that it is a Walmart designation. Just wanted to know for sure as I have seen some on Ebay with the X added to the model number.

I saw an "X" on a serrated leek package and it had different serrations than the non "X" marked package.

So, earlier today I posted about a typo on the Kershaw website in the Junkyard Dog listing. Now, before I say this next thing I do want to say that I don't sit around looking for typos with all my time or anything, BUT in the listing for the Boa on Kershaw's site it says in the product Description that the handle is G-10 while under the Specifications section it says the handle is Aluminum. So, which is correct, G-10 or Aluminum?

tom, pretty simple, the "X" designates that it is a knife that is offered up in a clam pack and not a box.

Max, the Boa is an aluminum frame.

Welcome to the Forums Mattmcg!

Kershaw is my favorite knife company, and you'll see why after reading the forum threads regarding the great customer service. And the fact that they really listen to the "little guy" but treat them like royalty will keep you loyal forever.

NY, thanks for the kind welcome. I've been a long time lurker but I guess I've gotten into collecting in the past few months and felt "knowledgeable" enough to begin sharing some of my experience/knowledge. I think I'm up to about 14 different varieties at the moment but the wife is beginning to ask "why"? :D I guess a little more time between acquisitions would be ok.... hehe

Yes, I'm a big fan of Kershaw myself. Like I mentioned before, I own the ZT0400 and love it (although I think a few of my suggestions would make it even better) and have a ZT0300 as well (a substantial piece of G10 and S30V!). I've also been impressed with Kershaw's attentiveness as well!

 Is there anything you like about the 0400? Sounds like you want to change everything. It might be easier to find a different knife, maybe the 0200? No thumb hole, but it's a start.

Oh, sure. In it's current form, the shape of the handle is probably the best fit of any of my knives. Wouldn't change a thing there! I also love the opening assist and the index finger protusion. Solid!

I guess my suggestions were not meant to say that the existing items were bad, just that a different variety might serve a valuable purpose for an alternate scenario. The frame lock could definitely be an interesting diversion possibly allowing a stronger lockup. The G10 is definitely preference (doesn't chew up clothing but does provide a slip-free grip). Just my $.02 though...

Hi everybody.
I have a question about Kershaw Avalanche.
I've been offered one without steel making on the blade. I am not sure if it is
CPM 440V or CPM S60V, or even 440A. I tried calling Kershaw, but did not get a sound answer.

Saf-t-cab, The Avalanche was only done up in 2 steels. CPM440V (S60V) or currently S30V. We have not always designated the steel on the blade with this model, which tells me it is a bit older and would most likely be a CPM440V version.

This'll be my first post, thanks everyone for a great thread.

Thomas, any word on a ship date for the G-10 Offsets? I'm eagerly awaiting mine.

I know Kershaw's got a lot of stuff in the works, but it would be great to see a larger version of the Mini Mojito (Mojo) with at least a 3 to 3 1/2 in inch blade (though even bigger wouldn't be a bad thing) of S30V or ZDP.

I like the Mini Mojito (Mojo) so much, I'd be happy to see some limited run versions of it in the current size.

While I'm on the subject of the Mini Mojo, one more question, I've bought two different Mini Mojos, produced two different years (one for my GF, she kept trying to take mine), and neither look like the one illustrated on the Kershaw web site. Both of ours have the G-10 inlaid and completely edged by the stainless. Is the one on the site an old illustration (most retailers also have that picture)?

I was at my local knife store today, and the boys were unpacking a shipment of new Kershaws they hand me a new knife and it's called "Needs Work" model #1820. Has anyone heard of this knife? It was a big surprise to me.

Hmm, I'm in this thread, might as well ask:

Are there any problems with the Feb 07 Leek's (1660)?

I sent in my Leek to get it fixed and Kershaw replaced it with a Feb 07, and for some reason this one doesn't seem to open on some occasions. Using the index pushing thing (forget the correct term :D) sometimes it goes into the handle where I can't touch it with my finger resting on the back of the handle, but it doesn't flip it out, and my old Leek did not do this. Now, granted, a flick of this wrist would resolve this problem, or using the thumb-stud since it's already coming out faster, before the AO kicks in, but it seems to be a defect to me, unless something somehow got in there and is selectively messing it up.

Got my Groove today from the good folks at NGK. Nice flipper action and a great job with the blade striations. You guys really scored on this one Thomas.

I'm looking forward to getting a Groove to match up with my RJ Martin Devastator I got the other day. Gonna to be nice to be able to go big and/or medium with the same style knife. I hope the Kershaw is as slick as the original version, 'cause this Devastator is the fastest opener I have.
