Kershaw Knives News Thread

Could somebody post pictures, or direct me somewhere, where I could see what the JYD models and flippers look like with the knife closed?

Thanks.

I shot a couple of pics of the passaround JYD2 closed and in pocket. Shown next to a Spyderco Calypso Jr for comparison. Hope that'll help you get an idea for size and profile.

I like that the clip is the same shape as the ones on Tim's custom JYD models, but it's size makes it rather conspicuous compared to many other clips.

Here's the lockup on the current JYD2 passaround model.

Edited to add: Opening this knife is addictive, it flips great.

I am really impressed with the lock up on that JYD2. I know a lot of people usually are wary of liner locks buy you can't deny that will be one sturdy knife. Does anyone know if the liner lock on the NRG will be on the thicker side like that as well.

Thanks, jujigatame. The Caly Jr is actually a great comparison, since I've carried one much of the time for over two years.

That JYD clip is kind of conspicuous. Not a problem here, I've never seen the point in hiding the fact that I've got a knife.

See, I don't have a problem with it being conspicuous as much as it looks like it might be more inclined than some clips to catch on stuff.

I was at my local knife store today and they had just received a shipment of JYD II and Groove's. The JYD is a perfect knife, just the right size and feels very good in hand. The Groove is also a fine knife however the handle could be a half inch longer it's a little tight in hand. The shop received three of each and I purchased one of each. May go back tomorrow and buy a second JYD as they are only making 500 of them.

Thomas, any chance for a reworked ZT 0400 that would include G10 handles, a drop point blade, closed rear liner, thumb hole, and with a frame lock instead of the lock liner?

I've got a ZT0400 now but think the options above would allow me to prefer it over my EDC Strider SMF!

Just an idea!

I thought they were going to be regular production models. Did I miss an update or something?

They will make alot more than 500, thats just the firsdt run I believe.

The first 500 of the JYD's are marked 1 of 500 (back side of the blade I believe).

Ralph, nice to hear you really liked the JYD.

Matt, there may be some other variations of the 0400 in the future. I'll pass your suggestion on.

 Is there anything you like about the 0400? Sounds like you want to change everything. It might be easier to find a different knife, maybe the 0200? No thumb hole, but it's a start.

The only change I would really want to see is the change to a Drop point blade option. Otherwise I think the 0400 is great just the way she is.

The short run Tirade has been put on the back burner, till the fall.

AThe Ti/ZDP Cyclone is being put together now, and a few hundred will hit the streets by month's end.

Thomas, sounds good. Count me in for one of this variety. I think this would be the "Strider SMF" killer if there were a few variations on the ZT0400 with the features listed above.

And thanks for taking customer feedback. Also good to know that the "little guy" is heard!

Welcome to the Forums Mattmcg!

Kershaw is my favorite knife company, and you'll see why after reading the forum threads regarding the great customer service. And the fact that they really listen to the "little guy" but treat them like royalty will keep you loyal forever.

Hey, I have a question. Why on Kershaw's website does the Junkyard Dog have a listing of 420HC blade steel for the plain edge and 13C26 for the serrated edge. I mean, I would imagine these two have the same steel. I'd also like to assume that they are both 13C26 but I just wanted to ask to be sure. I know I will be buying a JYD once they are more prevalent on the market.

Pretty sure it's a typo. Some of their Shun kitchen knives list 440A on the Kershaw website, but the steels are VG-10 and SG-2.
