Kershaw Volt anyone?

just struk them off my wish list!

I'm guessing you said this because you'd prefer CPM D2 on the edge.

I'll admit I know little about the El-Max, but what do you know about Bohler M390 that the rest of us don't? Personally, I think the composition looks fantastic. Superior to CPM D2 in most all areas. Did you read the other posts prior to giving us your well-reasoned opinion?

Anyone know if the Volt is setup for Tip Up Carry. For some reason the Speedform is not, which means even though I like the look of the knife I won't be getting it. :^(

I believe Thomas said that the production Speedform would be tip up/down capable...

Great looking new designs. I thought I was the man back in the day when I got my junkyard dog II in composite. These boys are sweet! Might have to start plottin on one.

I sure do miss the Kershaw forum and even those Kershaw Mafia guys......I mean just the Kershaw forum!;) Anyone else?

In my expriences Elmax an excellent PM steel, with very high chrome content.

As a blade steel IMO it's par on my Spyderco Mini Manix S30V  but with more corrosion resistance (absolutely no pitting). This is my experience on my custom HD Elmax folder... ;)

ELMAX
Carbon, C 1.70 %
Chromium, Cr 18.0 %
Manganese, Mn 0.30 %
Molybdenum, M 1.0 %
Silicon, Si 0.80 %
Vanadium, V 3.0 %

M390 PM
carbon 1.90
chromium 20
si .070
mn . 030
MO 1
W .60
V 4

These are the compositions as I know them. They should both be excellent steels. I'm grateful to get the chance to try them out. Kershaw has been very good to us steel nuts. They were the first and only production company to bring us S110V.

Both of these steels should be at, or a bit above the S30V levels of wear resistance, better in corrosion resistance, and probably similar in toughness.

For me, the size and build of these knives make them must haves. Plus, they're Kershaws. I don't think it's possible to go wrong with Kershaws Quality wise, engineering wise, and certainly not warranty wise. The price should be really good for what you are getting too.

I've been looking forward to these since they were announced.

edit: Golbat, I began this before your post. sorry for reposting the same info.

The Volt looks pretty sweet to me. Very 80s-looking.

Haha, I don't know about that. I'd say more 2020's looking...space-age ninja!

I saw a picture posted somewhere on the forums a few months ago showing the other side of the Volt, with its small deep carry tip-up clip. That is something that I really love. Man, I can't wait to see it in person. I can't believe it's going to be a whole inch bigger than my Boa though, only a half inch shy of millie length IIRC. Hopefully they bring out a slightly smaller version at some point because I think the shape, lines, and general aesthetic are absolutely awesome.

Then again, I remember thinking that my first Kershaw, a Vapor, was pretty big for carrying around. :p

I am digging that short, deep carry clip myself! Here lately clip position on a knife has become a critical factor for me on purchasing a knife.

i hate to say it, but i really dont like these knives, especially the occ one...but thats just my opinion, plus they are pretty dang big knives...bigger then they look. my 2 cents.

:thumbup:I like the Volt the best! It's definately on the short list.

The Speedform is ...I don't know..too blocky?Just not crazy about it.

The Cadre's ok if you're into sheepsfoot blades.I'm not.I like wharncliffs but not sheepsfoot.I like to have at least some point on my knives....yea I know "apples & oranges":o

All three look very innovative,& well put together. You top that with one of the best warranties/CS in the business, they should all be winners.

Man,I gotta get me a Volt!I think,NO it's definately going to be my next knife!:D

I'm really psyched about this one(did I mention that?:D)This'll be my first Kershaw of 2010.

Yup :thumbup::(

The end of this month was the last I heard. So 2 or 3 weeks or there about.

The best part is that while the Military has a 4" blade, not all of that is used for edge space.
Chances are the Volt has a longer edge than the Military.

This thing will be my first Ti Framelock (Reeve Integral Lock), and so far it looks to do everything right.
Long & clean blade, deep carry clip, Titanium handle, high tech steel.
No holes, no thumbstuds, no recurve!
