LOL.....Freaking Showoff!:p

Where's the pictures of the 5/16 Proto Mean Street you had Reese booger up for ya!?;)

LOL, I'm just lucky to now own it, but I can't take credit for how nice it looks... An UberHOG who shall remain nameless commissioned Mr. Weiland to do the makeover on that once ugly Proto... If I get my hands on the other... it will also get a new look... IF I'm lucky enough to find it! Seems to have disappeared out of sight & into a collection for now.

Hear that, everyHOG??? I'm looking for THIS other Mean Street proto with the doublecut finish!! PLEASE contact me if/when you want to pass this on. :) Thx!

Oh man, we have very different taste in whats ugly and whats not!!!

Here's hoping I find that other proto before you do! (If only to save it from being modified!)

Seriously. That raw proto is sexy as all hell.

The modding is minor, but if I find the other, it'll get the same grinds & finish with presentation snakewood scales & mosaic pins. I think it'll look sharp! :D:thumbup:

Whats the story behind em?

I think it would be a crying shame to mod both of em like that, you should keep the other one (if it ever turns up) in it's original condition for posterity!!! :p

They are 2 prototypes for the mean street. Thick as heck at just under .300". Not sure why they were made without handle slabs like Hammy's prototypes, maybe another version considered when dreaming up the original Mean Street?

Caling all steath hogs....... feel free to PM ME ANYTIME......whoever you may be I'm sure we could make some type of deal...........:)

MMmmm, Being from Holland, I've been seriously considering to join one of the knifeshows in the US someday (Blade or Knob Creek) hoping to score an awesome blade and meeting fellow HOGS and knifenuts. Allthough meeting other HOGS would be awesome and perhaps the most important reason of my visit, I would also be bummed if the knives I came for, weren't there in the first place......(maybe announcing my "visit" would get me on the IN-side:D)

Having not been to a show i've not been able to experience the highs and lows first hand. From reading various threads and posts on here though it seems there are some Hogs that due to the length of time they've been at the trough and through being very decent to others have 'earned' a place at the secret trough as I like to call it.

I believe all the blades that do not make it to the table at the shows end up in the hands of deserving Hogs that have proven their mettle and are going to give them a good home or at least when it comes to resale they are going to not scalp the hell out of it. You hear about guys getting good deals off the forum and there are plenty of posts about "I got my grail knife from a really cool Hog who shall remain nameless". This is when the secret trough pays it back.

If this is what is happening then it seems a fair way to stop immediate flipping and making sure the loyal and fair Hogs are rewarded for time spent at the trough. Otherwise you could see people walking up to the table buying 5 AKs and other such desirable blades then selling them on the forums that night for $200 mark up. There's no fairness in that.

Anyway thats just my thoughts on the 'secret trough'. I'm hoping to get to Blade next year so i'll get a chance to see how it works for real then.

i work for UPS and am a local 317 TEAMSTER union member.

i love being a TEAMSTER and one of the rules with being in the union and working at UPS is that SENIORITY RULES....bottom line, and i think may may play into effect here whether right or wrong.

paying union dues is another part of it but in the end it all pays off 10 fold.

at work its not who's the best, the biggest kiss ass or who's sleeping with the boss, its who's got the most time in.

these hogs have been around for years and are a close nit crew and i'm sure they all owe each others favors and have been scratching each others back for a long time and their is nothing wrong with that.

for new comers like me it might not be the most convenient for me but i can deal with it and understand it.

i mean come on,who are they going to give a special deal to?...me,the guy they never met before or someone they consider a close friend who has helped them out before in the past and that they've known for years and years.thats life.

so while it may not be fun or advantageous the answer about how to GET ON THE INSIDE is easy........................

pay your dues...{like you did this weekend}....put in work and put in time.

the success of this company aside from kick ass blades was built on the foundation of some of these hogs and i dont have a problem with them being rewarded for their loyalty and dedication.

anyone can get inducted and get a HOG name but its not that easy to reach true HOG'DOM status.the trick is you just cant do it overnight so if your prepared and willing to pay the dues and put in the time than thats what separates the rock stars from the groupies.

jerry probably has the largest loyal fallowing of any other maker and it didnt happen on accident

NO REGRETS?????

All of that is fine and dandy, really it is... I dunno about anyone else, but I only seek to understand how it actually works such that there are no misunderstandings or unmet expectations due to my own ignorance.

As a relative newcomer who's a utilitarian-user/non-collector that simply wants to own the best fixed knives available, I've found many aspects of the Busse-sales-way and the INFI collecting scene frustrating - though the undeniable quality and warranty mixed with a damned-fine community here do indeed go a very long way.

No regrets.

Very well said northern1, and you did it at 6:00 in the morning.

Very impresive!!!

BTW I do agree with that!!!

I'm one of the old-time HOG's and I got there Saturday AM and there were still plenty of knives for me to choose from on the tables after the show opened. Check out my pictures here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=589421

I took these after I made my selection so these were taken after some sold Saturday AM.

Did I miss out on some that I would have liked, yes, but were there plenty still available, yes.

So if anyone is thinking they don't want to come because of the selection just look at the pics of the knives I took Saturday AM. There was still a very good selection Saturday. And the knife I chose was not some super secret knife that was held back, it was on the table after the show opened Sat. AM.

I sure wish they would have had an Al. AK for me though ;)

:D:D

I forgot to mention, I didn't get any Cheesecake either. Unfortunately they can't bring those to the show as they need to be refrigerated so they stay back at the Motel. Ask about them next time and I bet you get an invite back to the Motel to have a piece

:D:D

I didnt read everything due to time but Northern1 's statement was profound

to answer the OP,

I was very depressed after Blade. Coming home stunk. SO I totally understand where ya coming from.

Heck some older Hogs even warned me before the show that it would happen, so dont feel out of place.

but thats what is so special about making it to the next.

EDIT I guess it was early and I didnt read at all.

I was depressed due to the let down that I had to go home. It felt like leaving a family reunion. I have nothing but good memories of it all. So my dissappoint seems to be different than that of what your speaking. I didnt want it to end

as a side note northern1...I work with some Union/ Guild members and have had family members in differnet unions. I just hope they dont take ya'lls right to a private vote away.:thumbdn:

How un American:grumpy:

hey Eric ,I was standing there when you made youre selection...If that paticular knife would have had magnum handles...it would have been gone Friday. It was a good one. Were there plenty of great knives , you bet.I got one havent seen available before . FSH in that Mossy green blade coating and hand shaped tan micarta..lets get it upfront..I love the knives. Will I always get a charge from being there and "maybe" score something truly special to me...something to pass down to my son, my own grail. Im up to almost any challenge.I dont flip knives..I have sold some..at a loss mostly. Its always nice to be able to be there and handle some of the rare ones as to get a better idea as to what you really want..next time.Im relatively young , so there will be more chances..bring a freaking cooler for the cheesecake. I dont care what anyone says If your first to the table you should get some of the freakin cheescake.I really like cheesecake. make it available to purchase first come first serv...I know I know , no seniorty...cant have none ...go sit at the small table in the living room...

Were there any SFNO's or SJ's with micarta when the show opened Friday morning?

If so, who got them? We need a pic of those:thumbup:

I know that there were SFNO's but they sold out quickly. I'm not sure who got them, someone told me on Saturday but I forget now.
