KITH - Photos

Finally got mine done!!!! Just hope somebody loves her as much as I do..lol. The more I hold it the more I want it.
This is my fist hidden tang, first stag, and biggest blade I've attempted.

blade is right at 9 1/2" hollow ground from 440c bar stock. Brass guard and butt cap with a really nice piece of Sambar Stag. Just getting ready to stitch the sheath together, and it will be ready to fly out the door, to her new home.

What tyoe of wood is this?

I was really hoping to see more newer makers like last year. I feel very outgunned, but am happy with what i turned out. It's not perfect, I got some scratches in it I cant get out. But it's a solid knife that should serve anybody well.

Had a lot of fun trying to make the best I could.

I've noticed a few guys said they still need to sharpen thier knives.
I know I'm not involved in this KITH, but I thought I would toss my 2 cents in.
I won't tell you what to do, but I will tell you what I do.
After heat treat I do a final grind on my knife and take it from 36 to 220 on my machine. I then use a 60 micron belt and sharpen my blade. Then before any hand sanding, fittings, etching, or handle...I TEST my blade to make sure it will do what I ask of it. Then I do all the other work. When I'm done I still need to hit it to a stone, but it's only about 4 strokes and then a light strop.
Trust me...it is much better to have a knife fail in your shop then when it's all done up and in the customers hands.

I hope this doesnt take anything away from all these great looking knives.
Kinda wish I had joined in...maybe next year.;)

Definitely... However I dull the test sharpening before handsanding. I've cut my fingers very badly before so its good to be safe. I don't care the little scratches which can happen during sharpening as my hands are important for me..

Some grown boys are going to be very happy this Christmas. They all look good! Its nice to see them all finished and ready to go to their new homes. Stacy made the right choice to have them done in time this year. I'm proud of all you guys!

Here is mine. Some have seen it before on a WIP.
Forged W2 from Don Hanson steel. Clay coated heat treatment, Burl Source Buckeye burl and 416 ss guard. I made the sheath too.

I don't know Bruce. All these other folks have these really nice knives they're posting. I think you should practice knife making some more and then try again...

:D

(dang, there's a really fine MS in here, whoa...)
