Knife addiction

I have been collecting sine I was 8 ( 41 years ago). I once dated a girl who was into astrology and she did a "star map" of me and found that I have a uncontrolable attraction to metal. So there you go, the stars have forced me to buy the 1,000+ knives I own !!!
I have had three girlfriends who were into knives also that helped me feel OK.....

I've heard it blamed on many things, but Astrology? Just kidding!

I wish I had a scientific excuse I could use on my wife ....... :D I think I'll google star map!

Just spent my monthly bonus at KnifeCenter and realized with a shock that I had not actually bought a knife for myself...just a sword for me and a Vic SAC Explorer for my wife.
Ha, and people say I cant go a month without buying myself a knife.
Couldn't possibly be addicted if I can go a month without buying myself a knive...right?
...do swords count??...how about knives for other people??...

I'll admit I have a problem when I seriously consider buying a knife that costs more than my Rolex Sea Dweller. That is the most $$$$ thing I own.

It is a mental disorder that is beyond cure, it make no sense and has no reason yet there it is. If anyone finds the cure, let me in on it.

And then there are the enablers...

A friend shows me a recent Boker Tree Brand 'classic' - bought from evil-bay. There went that month's - and the next six's - play moola.

Some well-wisher on a forum compares a BM 630/635 Skirmish/mini Skirmish with a knife I asked opinions of. A Skirmish quest commences - but I am continually a day late/lots of dollars short. Then - the ultimate enabler steps in - my wife - found me a mini Skirmish locally - great shocker of an anniversary gift.

Evil Bay must take the blame... that Kershaw Ti/SG-2 JYDII was 'almost' affordable. Then, the LNIB BM 630 Skirmish there, too. Next - locally, a new 610 RUKUS - it keeps on... I'm spending plastic now... when does it stop?

Last week - on vacation - my wife, the ultimate enabler, presented me with a new BM 710 in D2 - WOW! How can I break the addiction? No problem, the bills came while I was gone - a healthy stack, too. I am broke... at least until the local pusher opens Monday...

Stainz

PS I know, Iknow... stay off Evil-Bay - the forums - out of gun/knife stores. So easy!

I recently decided to spend no more money for the rest of the year or so on new knives and gear. Then I saw the Rodent Waki. I put up a good fight, if I say so myself. But in the end, as they say, resistance was futile :o.

Thanks K3RMO for resurrecting the thread ! I have been so entrenched in the knife abyss that I totally forgot about this post ! ! I hope as President that I have not let anyone down. I have been working on controlling my addiction. Here is a tip I can pass along. As your perusing your favorite knife sites and you see a blade that is calling your name don't pull the trigger ! Walk away and get one of your favorite blades and hold it, caress it. Maybe even give it a little kiss and say I love you:) I guess my addiction hasn't improved !!!!!

shamefully I have done a similar things, i keep wanting all these large blades so I usually just walk over and draw out my BK9 (bertha) and swing her around a bit, then I look at my financial situation and usually wind up saying that a new blade can wait a week or two because I can do most anything with Bertha hahahaha tmi right?

Anyone who owns more than 2 knives is an addict;)

Let's face it, if you have a nice fixed blade and a folder, you really don't need anything else.

And if you own a multi-tool and still feel the need to have extra knives around, you are an addict too.

Remember, the majority of the population manages to survive everyday without even carrying knives.

I'm not in denial, my name is Rob and I am a knife addict

sounds i am knife addict too....i have a kabar fixed and a spyderco folder, but i am still looking for a benchmade folder

Well BDT you have the right idea but try and control your excitement swinging that BK9 around and you have at least 10 ft of distance between you and the nearest object. Recon do you sleep with your Benchmade ?

Outdoors is best ! Try and find a small to medium sized tree and have at it. Anything larger such as a 100 year old maple and you could seriously hurt yourself. After engaging in such activity you will be too tired to search for more knives to buy. While writing this I'm checking out a sweet CQC-13, I know I have one just need to find it ! Still waiting to hear back from RECON.

I chopped down a 7'' diameter spruce or pine with her :D

Unfortunately swords to fall under the category of knives just bigger in size as far as I'm concerned Urbercoupe. Gifting knives to other people is very rewarding and theraputic but you are just masking your addiction and leaving you less cash to by more knives for yourself especially if you are going through knife withdrawl. The Vic Sac for the wife was a good purchase and much better than flowers. Remember there is no such thing as one last knife---except the last knife you already had.

I got sucked in big time! But now, I'm getting out! I already started selling. I want Balance in life.

Ah, the selling. Sooner or later, we arrive at this point. I've been collecting and fooling with cutlery since my apostasy. The glorious journey has been nothing short of a power-packed adventure, yet alas, as well all know, we either sell them eventually or pass away. The lure of the odd end garage sale still fresh in our memory yields yet another find that reminds us of a better, more stable time. Our lust is temporarily assuaged.

The sequence of the addiction runs at various paces and courses depending on the user frame of mind and pocketbook. One fellow said that he knew he was suffering in the most terrible way when he took the time to dig up my old posts on the topic. Not to worry, what goes up must eventually come down. But the steel itself, well, it will last for many more moons. What matters chiefly is the fun we had on the way and the solid connections we made.

its like an anti anxiety pill for me, if i know i have the right knife on me i know i can handle whatever situation might arise. got to have a main blade, and a back up. then i need back ups to my main and back ups for my back ups....yeah thats addict logic for shure. you know what, i blame the manufacturers! just when i thought i had a collection that could last me if the world came to an end....then they come out with a new knife that i cant live without! darn you zt, strider, buck, busse, and every other knife maker on the planet, its your fault!!!!

Problem? I don't have a problem!
It's not a problem, it's a solution!
I'm not crazy, you're crazy!
:)
