knife confiscated!

Chuck, I thought you were a musical director by your "credentials". Now I think you are really a lawyer, and the Musical Director bit is just a front;). Very sound advise.

i worked security at a country music club in austin about 6 yrs ago, part time, a bud was the mgr, so that made it easy, lol. didnt pay bad either.

i am 110% in agreement, ya should get your knife back, we would offer to allow ya in if ya gave me the knife, but wouldnt take it if ya were leaving. we used to keep them for people, but caused too much hassles. but under NO curcumstances did we EVER take anyones property, and not return it. if ya want in, we keep it, or ya can leave, OR go to your car and put it up. easy enough, imho.

we also hired 2 off-duty officers on wed thu fri and sat nite, so at least some of the guys ya dealt with might have been cops. 'gentlemans' clubs do this all the time, at least in this area.

i know several guys who also did this line of work, and they have told stories similar to yours, about people losing knives/etc, so it does happen.

the manager, if she wants to, and can ID the bouncer, can either get the thing back, or fire the guy. if she wants to......the place i worked all the employees were pretty tight, partied all the time, heck, she might be his girlfriend, lol. but try, complain, if necc threaten, ya gotta try!!

good luck, hope it works out for ya,

greg

smith & wesson 3" SWAT folder 1st run... very sentimental since it has traveled the world with me, and saved me on several occasions... even though it's an affordable blade... always been my EDC, and now I feel naked without it.

Called the club today and got thru to some lackey... again the runaround... so, managers don't come in until the evening, and even though the're in, nobody will be picking up the phones, so looks like I have to go in person, which is a hassle since I live so far away... or I'll just keep calling back in the mornings and bother them so much that they're forced to set up and appointment, in which I can go armed with Chuck's folder of advice... thanks for that chuck! I'm gonna get that prepared today.

ok now once you get the knife back save up and bye a high quality knife, I thought we were talking about a $100-300 knife, just be glade it wasn't one:D

well, I don't really think it matters at all what kind of knife it was, after all, "it's the principle" that counts... I own several customs, as well as a MT LCC, and I would gladly give up any of those before losing my trusty Smith & Wesson... well, not "gladly." ;)

Lots of very good advice so far. I would also consider contacting the DA's office directly if you do not have luck with the manager/owner. Even if the cops are not interested, the DA can charge them.

I would also file a complaint with the local Alcohol Beverage Control board.

Of course, the first thing that came into my mind when I read this was why in the hell are you going into any place that frisks you first?!?! I don't like getting searched going into govermental buildings. I would NEVER give my business and cash to a company that subjects me to more scrutiny than the goverment (which is partially why I don't fly anymore and why I have not bought a new S&W handgun in quite a few years now).

For my part, I wouldn't set foot in any establishment that searches it's customers.

Total B.S. that this happened to you, man.
We all dread that situation and it is unfortunate luck to say the least.

It looks like you are on the track to handling this the right way. You have the chance to show the common folk that we knife-nutZ are serious and educated about our interest. That we will not stand for people misusing authority to relieve us of our cherished tools.

It is good to fight the fight for any peice of property, but knives get a bad rap lately and it is good to show people that they arn't just some offensive nick-nack we carry around to cause havok on the world. These things mean more to us...they save us...they are companions on our adventures. Us knifey ones care about our rights and now you got the opportuniy to educate a few people on what those rights are.

Win one for the team, blade-weilding brother.

Well, if you like to go to dance clubs and the such, you are going to be hard pressed to find one that doesn't frisk for weapons at the door. Fact is, a lot of people that go to clubs get drunk and lose their inhibitions. That's why it's called liquid courage. This doesn't mix well with weapons of any sort. I know professor wasn't carrying his knife as a weapon, but a lot of people do. The bars have no way of filtering out the ones carrying for utility v/s ones carrying for trouble. This is why most CCW laws prohibit you carrying guns in any establishment that serves alcohol, and they absolutely prohibit you from carrying a gun if you have had any alcohol.

OUCH!:D

went to my local precinct today, but they said that I have to go to the one near where the incident happened... guess I have to shlep in there now... I think the cops were just being lazy though. When I walked into the precinct, they were all sitting around drinking coffee and eating those circular lumps of sugar, and I swear, you should have seen their faces once I mentioned that I wanted to file a stolen item report for my knife... they looked at me up and down, as if trying to ID me from the FBI 10-most-wanted list! Perhaps I was just being a bit paranoid, but it truly seems like we knife fanatics experience lots of prejudice because of our passion. Not right.

ok, so I finally got thru to the scumbags at the club, and I politely asked to speak with the manager... the guy who answered the fone turned out to be the manager, and once he found out why I was calling, "to retrieve my property," he became obnoxious, practically yelling into the phone, saying,"how dare you try to come into my club with an illegal weapon!" He continued," you act like this was a pencil, or a keepsake or something... how could you possibly think we'd hand it back... I should have had the cops come, and I should have given it over to them... blah, blah... well, here's what, how about you come by, and I'll have the cops meet us both, and then we'll sort it out then, how'd you like that?" Well, I answered that it does happen to be a keepsake I said, keeping as polite as possible, and I would LOVE to meet you with the police to retrieve my possession. This pissed him off even more, but he stubled over his words, and agreed to an appointment, which I set for Friday nite... he was shocked that I would agree to meet with him and the cops, and he refused to give me his name!! Anyway, now I have to prepare for this meeting on friday, since his attempt to scare me away did not work. I am planning on going to the police myself first, to give them my side of the story. What do you guys think? chuck?

Well, I guess I must be showing my age. I have never been searched at the door of a bar, nor would I ever submit to it.
