Knife Joy Slysz Bowie Second Run Coming!

The color is great, mine is a deep navy blue. This is my first non-USA Spyderco knife and I have to admit this is the most solid, highest quality feeling Spydie I have ever owned. I get the enthusiasm for this knife. I wish I could have ordered 2! Nice job Spyderco and Knifejoy!

I would post a picture, but I am at maximum allowable attachments!?!?

The entire reason I purchase a membership is to be able to post pics, if I have to use a 3rd party service or delete old photos I will probably become a read-only member.

I purchased to support Spark, buy and sell, and get PM's. I discovered the picture hosting and thought it was a nice bonus. To each his own...

Just bought an original Slysz Bowie CTS-XHP for less (but not much less) than $1k. 🤷‍♂️

Sniped it. More info to follow.

Now, I've gotta look for a Szabofly and a ZT 0454 & ZT 0777 to complete the collection. ;)

I’ve been tempted many times over the past couple of years. I suspect refinishing the knifejoy version to be more like the original can bring the total to just below the cost of buying the original on fleabay, so I’m not going that route.

I may still grab an original someday, but I don’t know if I’d pay more than $700-800 if even that much, and all the ones I saw last week were $1000-1100 used. If the design had more spydie-hole access past the lockbar for a reverse flick, it would make a big difference to me.

But I snagged a beautiful used Holt Morpheus in M390 in mint condition for $650, using the money I saved buying the knifejoy instead of buying the original ($1100 for both).

I paid $860 plus $75.25 sales tax (shipping included) for a total of $935.25 for the knife.

I used a sniping program to "win" the auction for it. My limit was $919.54, which would have resulted in a total cost of $1k, if it had been reached.

The other bidders apparently were also using a sniping program but I outbid them before the auction ended.

The 1st bid was not placed until 1 min before the end of the auction. My bid is always timed to be entered only 3 secs before the end of the auction, which always results in a "win" unless my limit is below the that of others.

While there were a couple of strange exceptions, most of the recent past sale prices for an original Slysz Bowie have ranged from $950 to $1050 (including any shipping costs but excluding any applicable sales tax).

My purchase price was about 10% below the low end of these recent sales. So, I'm satisfied w/the price that I paid for it.

When it rains it pours . . .

A 1st Gen KnifeJoy Slysz Bowie just popped up on the Exchange for $450.

The ad was up for an hour before I saw it and no one had bought it yet. So, I just bought it too. LOL! 🤷‍♂️

Wow! PM before you post it on the exchange? 😂

Congrats sgt1372 sgt1372 ! Two to boot no less!

The original is a beauty with both the blade and titanium finish. There were no issues with lock stick. The only part I don’t like is the G-10 backspacer even though it gives you jimping.

Yeah, my Paysan has the OG Slysz finish on blade and handle, but with the bonus lock stick 🙃

The seller of the KnifeJoy Slysz Bowie mentioned some lock stick.

If it's annoying that would be reason enough for me to resell it. I sold my Paysan because of that.

I'll just have to see how bad it is and, if I decide to let it go, it should be very easy to resell.

So, you got one of the original Slysz Bowie with stonewashed blade and titanium and one of the first batches of the KnifeJoy ones both without lockbar inserts?

Yes, within a day of each other.

I bought a carbidizer like 10-15 years ago for $200-250. I wasn't sure if I should at the time, but it's been totally worth the cost. I carbidize all my TI RILs and never have to worry about lock stick (or wear). Might be worth it for anyone sick of lock stick.

Interesting idea but carbidizers are going for +$500 now.

There's also DIY video on how to make one but it's not something that I'd care to do.

See:

There's even an old BF thread discussing the matter:

FWIW, I've got other Spyderco Ti RIL framelocks w/o lockbar inserts -- including a Nirvana, Drunken SpydieChef & K2 -- which do not have any of what I would call "lock stick." Some guys think that ANY friction between the lock bar and the rotational head of the blade is "lock stick." I don't.

On the other hand, the "lock stick" on the Paysan that I owned was SO bothersome that I sold it.

I'll just have to wait & see if there's any lock stick on the 2 SB's that I just bought and, if there is, decide whether I want to sell them because of that or not.

We'll see . . . 🤷‍♂️

Just received the Gen 1 KnifeJoy Slysz Bowie that I bought recently. Will post pics of it here & elsewhere later.

There is some friction between the lock bar & the round end of the blade but not enough that I'd call it "lock stick."

To me "lock stick" is literally that:

The end of the lock bar "sticks" to the ball end of the of blade & it extremely difficult to move the lock bar and, when it does move, it makes an annoying noise while scraping" against the ball end of the blade when unlocking it.

The only Ti knife that I ever owned which was like that was a Paysan.

Still waiting to receive the original SB which should arrive in a few days.

I'm sure you'll be happy with them. I'm pretty happy with the action on my Gen 2 KJ SB, with zero stick or roughness. My Paysan is also my only knife with genuine lock-stick, such that it takes extra effort to unlock it.

However, it's such a cool knife with a great finish on the Ti integral handle and blade that I'm not tempted to part with it. Metal Complex said something in the last livestream Sunday about the guy that makes Brown knives is going to do an easy fix on his lock-stick. I hadn't been tempted to ship it off yet, but I might now if I can contact them and ask about it. I was also tempted to contact other custom knife makers about looking at it, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
