thinning the spring just a little should reduce the tension without weakening the lock.
bending the spring just a touch will do this as well, but then you have a higher danger of not enough tension.

Thanks guys, only other way I know it's to leg the locking mechanism to make it so less pressure is needed to release the lock, but I can't think of a good reason to do it that way and plenty of bad ones so that's just academic

I'll try to readjust the angle on the pin I think first

Did the old lock spring have that same length? I would think the spring should run up and butt up close to that ridge. Although unlikely, couldn't that spring eventually walk out of the slot?

Regardless, I agree that thinning it out should lessen the pressure needed to unlock.

Looks nice!

Glen, How about showing some of your work? The three I have of yours are outstanding, and I just saw a picture of a 110 you did for a guy in stag that is beautiful!

It was, but it was broken so chances are you are right, I'll play with it

Thanks

Well, I don't want to flood this thread with my work, but John did ask for some pics. Here's some before and afters that I have shown elsewhere...

Excellent work!

I have one of those Camco cap lifter jacks in my box of projects that I need to get around to. Nice!

An HK Mini Muk blank that I picked up here on BF a few weeks back. One of my first attempts at handle making. A small piece of Jatoba from a coworker... I'm happy with how it turned out. It makes a nice little EDC.

Nice work Fog...Did you leave the holes in the handles for a functional reason, like being able to tie it off as a spearpoint?

I've been wondering how that came out, how's it feel being the only other person to put a handle on a HK? ;)

I used some 1/4" stainless rod I had to align and glue up the handles. My intent was to leave it in as pins but decided to pull it out before the epoxy went off so I wouldn't have to deal with sanding the stainless. I may add some aluminum or brass tube pins later if I stumble across some stock. The Jatoba is very hard and I'm not worried about it chipping around the holes. If the scales come off eventually because of no pins, I'll just make something new! It would make a nice little spear point in a pinch!

... a bit inadequate but I had fun doing it!:D

Looks pretty nice to me, Fog!

So I made my own locking pin because the old one was rusted and broken

but I wasn't confident in the brass to have enough spring to retain it's shape over use so I went and made a new one

Build so far looks okay but the locking retenton on it is a bear, definitleya 2 hand opener and you have to put your oen ahnd into the "fireing line" of the blade to reall close it, may have to pull it back apart and readjust

Interesting development. Maybe tapering a bit the spring will help?
