Knife storage, what do you guys use?

I use this Gerstner. Lots of space to "grow into":)

For a long time I kept my collection neatly packed in a couple of backpacks. Last week Recon 1 gave me a couple of acrylic retail displays to house some of my collection. I am loving the fact that I can see them displayed in groups together.

Here's the EDC display I have next to "my" seat in the living room right now.

Thank you Recon 1!

I only own a few knives.

I ALWAYS keep one (Buck 110) in my black leather fanny pack and the two other knives in my Stickley oak chest laying flat with my 'super simple' aka very FEW quality pieces of jewelry. (My other items of jewelry got gifted and sold years ago. I kept what I really wore the most and the rest went to family and friends.)

I am not into collections and I am NOT knocking them.

My husband bought a second Buck 110 anniversary knife and he gave that to me even though I told him that I did not really need it. So actually, I have 3 other Buck knives now. The Vanguard got gifted back to my husband but I can use it with some other knives of his.

I used to own and shoot many handguns (Back east and out here.) and for a time frame I kept them in a new, lockable Sears tool chest on wheels. It was black and had roller bearings. I picked out exactly what I wanted and since I only owned about 3 rifles at the time - it suited me perfectly. This was back east and when my late husband was alive. I thought that I came up with a good solution at the time.

Now, my MT husband keeps his knives (He is still downsizing and he was/is NOT a big collector!) in the top drawer of a newer Sears tool chest too. He downsized ALL of his guns and consolidated all of his handgun and rifle calibers BIG time too. He was doing that for several years anyway.

So what he is not carrying ON HIM (Pistol, traditional pocket knife and a multi tool deal on his leather belt.) or by our bed when we are home - fit in the same Sears lockable chest with LOTS of room to spare. The few rifles and one shotgun FIT into a tall but not heavy locked cabinet that we can MOVE easily if we build another house or cabin when he officially retires.

Several of our friends and friends of friends have been victims of crime. Rural areas, small towns and cities. Robberies and home invasions - theft is rampant. ALL across the country and it is getting worse even on our own Montana news. Now, if I had a really EXPENSIVE knife - I would be careful and carry it ON ME or put it away when I left the home and choose another knife if I was overly concerned about losing it in any manner.

Nice knives in this thread! Thank you.

Some of the knife displays are really cool.

I have seen this done with people who collect watches and other OLD time pieces too.

Thanks again!

Those CLEAR plastic storage boxes that stand alone and seal or can fit INTO one large 'tub' or plastic legal file cabinet are easy to move and/or store if you have a large collection. One man mentioned them on here. So knives and many other items can be moved and stored easily with this method.

Some of you put in those anti humidity packets and refresh them on a regular basis like you can with ammo in ammo cans that you rotate on a regular basis.

Now, if you don't have a super large collection of knives or super high humidity - I think that most knives could be kept just about anywhere in your house easily.

You could put some in metal lockable file cabinets too.

I've got the exact same setup. Works pretty well

I found a nice $80 solution for a smaller collection at Costco. It's not solid wood, but the build quality and finish detail is impressive for that price. Made by Trinity, each drawer is lined with felt, the front cover has magnets in the corners, and there are nice silicone feet on the bottom:

Nice nwmetalbug! What did that run you?

Got it on sale for 319. The wheels are kinda cheesy but the quality of the box is top notch. I sold my way to big Snapon roller cab a few years ago so I know what a decent box is. Guess since its not a knife I can say its actually from Harbor Freight one of the few good things ive found there.

That is what I use. Mine are more translucent than clear. I can stack them inside larger plastic tubs or plastic cases or place inside a filing cabinet that has room. But these are not for display purposes. If I were displaying knives, I would get one or two of those glass or acrylic cases that you see at gun and knife shows.

The acrylic display case above is very cool. Never been much into displaying any of my collectables. Most people would never know that I owned anything interesting.

i keep my collection in a 5 inch thick steel explosives safe

Not exactly sure what an explosives safe is actually as I recall explosives being stored in essentially small buildings that would not contain an explosion (allow pressure to build and potentially make a larger more focused explosion). Anyway, this might even be torch proof. You just never know. Got to protect that $200 knife. To top it off, you can store your dynamite and blasting caps there too, right? (Yes, I know they are supposed to be stored separately.)

I have a wet sponge in a plastic container with holes in the lid to help provide a relatively consistent humidity level in the drawer - helps preserve natural handle materials. Pretty basic lay-out...

Hello,

Thanks and I understand about those plastic storage boxes. I should not have said 'clear' but I know what you meant. I used and still use the same things. They come in handy! I do not use them for display either.

I used them when I moved out west plus I used some solid color larger R. - famous company plastic tubs. I do not know if I can use the 'brand name' of them here.

I like the looks of the OLD fashioned wood and glass and the newer acrylic display cases even if I would not use them myself. I think that they look pretty COOL.

I like the idea of the old silverware boxes and wooden boxes that even look like jewelry furniture boxes too. A friend of mine has a large one (Oak wood with LEGS on it.) for her jewelry and they can be used for just about anything.

I like the Sears and other brand name tool chests for various things too. Not only for tools!

I like the DESK idea too.

Take care!

I've got a pelican 1450 it works great it will hold a bunch of knives and I've had zero issues with corrosion of any kind.
And if you look around there are some pretty good deals to be found.
