Knife you could rely on for survival

Three! With a Rosewood Looking Laminate Handle and large S guard

Life is full of good surprises!;)

I have 3 “copies” of this knife made in AL except that they are hollow ground and stainless. I have plenty of knives made from 1095cv, 0170-c, and 5160. I was just wondering whether any stainless can be used as roughly as carbon steel, without breaking. In my experience ~8% chromium adds enough rust resistance without compromising strength. So far, cruwear and infi have never caused me concern with regard to either.

Honestly? My Busse TGBG, holds an edge longer than INFI but sacrifices a tiny bit of toughness, though still being able to handle quite literally anything you can throw at at

I had an sr101 satin rmd. The thing literally rusted into dust. I did not survive.

Just kidding. It is pictured above. Fantastic steal. Made an awesome jack of all trades knife. With my esee 6, cpk field knife, and Spartan difensa I couldn't justify keeping it.

Carbon blades belong in the woods. They are tough and you can sharpen them on a rock if you must. Their edges will tend to roll, rather than chip. A little bit of rust is nothing compared to the advantages you reap from a carbon steel. Nothing wrong at all with a stainless blade as a woods knife, I just prefer a carbon steel with a good heat treat.

So - have you figured out what knife you need to buy before you star in the remake of Cast Away? :D

My contribution is - I have no experience or training in surviving alone in the untamed wilderness, so I'd be just as good with a Victorinox Alox SAK as a machete.
Watch naked and afraid. Instant expert.

Hey, how does that wicked looking 12” bladed, 13” handled stainless steel beast you own perform at cutting saplings? Is it easy to sharpen on smooth stones or river rocks? I’m intrigued about using that steel, but would you need to bring a ceramic, alum, or diamond sharpener along as well?

Really? I thought a few episodes of Bear Grills made anyone into a Survival Ninja!! Especially the one where he put the dirty rain water up his butt to supposedly keep from dying if dehydration!;)
You're kidding... I saw one where he drank his piss and then it flash flooded. Never seen the dirty butt water one.

The man I made those for was a bit bigger and stronger than me at 6’4” and 250Lb and a complete Woodsman & Hunter! They haven’t broke or Chipped and they are ATS-34 and I had PAUL Bos do the HT at 56-57 instead of the RC of 58-59 that was what we used on the Hunter & Chef Knives of ATS-34

It was years ago! He was on a small sailboat .. Conan O'Brien interviewed about this and asked, You put dirty water up your butt? Is there a time when you just die?? LOL
