Knifecenter Rockstead woe

Ya wrong, Cray. If pics had to be submitted for any post not to be a lie, this place would fold due to lack of interest.

You follow that reasoning in your personal life as well...wanting to have everything proven by multi-angle video or stills? Kids and wife submiting pics to you daily before you believe 'em? Seriously?

The OP doesn't need "backup" video for his statements anymore than I do for mine. I've never posted a pic here and may never. A lot of us don't. Some of us don't have that much brag. I've said before, frankly I'd feel like an idiot spending all that time positioning a knife for a glamour shot---rather spend that time with a girlfriend. Hope you aren't one of those who posts your whole life, home and family in pics on facebook.

Have you seen KC prove it WAS in perfect condition? I don't see them posting any pics.

Why in addition to well-written posts MUST he have to back them up with pics?

The guy got ripped. You know that. I think you're wrong.

Wow. Take a breath man. You got a little personal there.

Why is it such a problem to ask for evidence of such a claim against a well respected BFC supporting dealer?

First of all, what's with your extreme aggression in your responses? Someone might get the idea that it was YOU that Knifecenter just yanked for $90. Why don't you calm down?

Secondly, really? Pictures should ALWAYS be taken when almost $2,000 is involved. Otherwise, you are letting someone else decide that your decision was wrong. It's common sense. If I was about to have to send back an $1,800 knife that I was claiming wasn't to my liking due to very real issues, the first thing on my mind would be "These guys are going to be like "This loser has buyer's remorse, or the rent's due and he needs his money back." I'd have led with pictures and video (which really? This is 2016, EVERYONE has a cellphone capable of grabbing both those things in a millisecond) and sent them to Knifecenter first:

"Ah yes, I just received my new $1,800 knife and I think there are some things wrong with it. Check out this terribly gritty opening. Oh, and look at this poor fit and finish." and if they had wanted to make a scene, then I would have brought that evidence here for folks with more experience to decide.

That's how it should be done. Sorry for the OP, but he just got soaked for $90 to learn a lesson. That's life.

brandoak, sorry to hear about your experience. If I were you & I felt my complaints to be valid, I would SPEAK to a "higher up" at KnifeCenter. If that didn't get me anywhere, I would contact Rockstead & voice my complaints & ask them to reimburse the stocking fee. If I couldn't get my $90 returned by either, I'd make it known to KnifeCenter & Rockstead in no uncertain terms that I would never do business with them again & that my experience would be repeated to anyone & everyone who would lend me an ear.

Hey again, 10. Hope all's well. :)

I just had a thought and you're the one to ask: Do any of the "For Sale by Individual" crowd here charge a re-stocking fee??

I always look at the return policy before before adding to cart. If I was unhappy with the product, because of fit and function, I would first make an attempt, preferably via the phone, to give them the opportunity to give me satisfaction. My expectation would be for them to replace the purchase or refund me, and not be charged for restocking. If unsatisfied, I would kick the complaint to a supervisor. If the supervisor still did not resolve this, then I would return the knife and never do business with the company.

I'm not certain what you did, but it sounds like you were unhappy and immediately shipped the knife back without first attempting to address your dissatisfaction. There's gaps in your story, that would help us see a clearer picture. Sorry for your Rockstead experience. They're really great knives.

Well, you're building quite a straw man, but the reason pics are so critical in this situation is that many things can be misinterpreted or misidentified. As Rev pointed out, there is a swedge on the spine where the supposed "cast line" is. Could it be that OP has never seen a swedge? I'm sure he has, but how do we really know?

As for glamour shots and such, some of us are aspiring photographers and artists. I know it's hard to understand that there are people that think differently than you, but maybe just once try to imagine it being possible. There is no need to suggest that someone should "feel like an idiot" for doing something that they enjoy:)

In my case I did call before sending it in and explained the issue. Sent it in and was told the knife was fine. It was no where near fine.
$30 lesson. Now I mostly buy from smaller shops....usamadeblade, white mountain etc.

Nah, didn't mean to...just stating what I think. If the examples I used offended you, sorry---but I was serious in asking, due to your own perceived aggressiveness in requiring photos. Again, the "no pics it didn't happen" thing is farcical, that's all. People can tell the truth without pictures.

Asking isn't a problem; implying it's a lie without them is.

Out of curiosity, what was the issue? Sorry if you have described it earlier - I may have missed it.

I should hope they don't.
Otherwise they would need a dealers membership which KC does.

$400 Sukhoi 2.0 had NO edge on the blade. It wasn't just dull, there was NO edge whatsoever. Could've taken that knife and placed the 'edge' on your wrist, put pressure....lots....and drawn It across said wrist with no worries of bleeding.
It looked like a blank.

Probably you should have talked with KC first, before initiating the return. I've found all dealers are willing to listen and take time to address your issues to satisfaction, KC would have done the same. I've also had re-stocking fees waived after a polite conversation, where the new knife was not up to the mark. The lesson for all here is to establish a dialog for resolution before taking sides.

Hopefully someone from KC responds on this thread, since I am curious to hear their side of the story too (not just to your issue, but the general mud slinging that's going on in the thread).

^^ So have I. Blade HQ also has a charge for returns. The one time I returned something there was no charge.

Well, frankly, talking about what evidence I need from my wife or daughter is getting a bit personal. You've got to feel that one out with yourself. I don't need pictures of their daily interactions to believe them. They are my family.

A business interaction with knifecenter is not family. It is business. If I have a complaint with them over a $2,000 knife I will be taking pictures. Especially if I am going to make a thread about it.

Arguing on the internet about a knife dealer without evidence? Good luck. I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

OP when I mentioned pics I was not insinuating anything by that comment. I've just always took pics or made videos if I have a problem with anything . That way it's not my word vs whoevers word on the other end of the deal.

I've had nothing but positive expierence with knife center personally but stuff happens.

Personally my opinion is if someone is willing to spend the cash EVEN if he did need the money back 1710 is better than 0 and not worth starting a thread over where he may eventually get called on it.

The OP either got a previously returned or used knife, or possibly OP just has crazy high standards and it wasn't on par with what his expectations were for that knife at that price. Either way I believe he was either wronged ,or he really believes he was wronged . I don't think he's going through all this for 90 bucks.

Next time take pics ,that way if anything said you pull out your pics or your video and say see this this and this your argument is invalid.

EXTREME aggression, huh?? O MAH GAWD!

Where you from, The Land of Meek? If KC HAD charged me that fee, yeah you'd see aggressive writing. I'm calm...and no need to condescend.

First, you're hindsighting. "Secondly" (*LOL*)---duh.

Yeah, easy for you to say and rant a paragraph about coulda, shoulda, woulda. Very classy.

Well, he didn't. He attempted to handle a simple problem, it blew up and he found himself, as you seem to see it, disadvantaged by a shady move, by an apparently shady dealer who can now use what he didn't do against him. I guess you really told OP off there...with your sack of hindsight.

I think you and most of us have likely been caught a time or two in a simiilar position--"WISH I'd done this."

Let me wade through your murk and clue you in to the real point here---the guy was charged an extortionist amount in a ripoff re-stocking fee scheme. $90 to re-shelve a folder which eventually will sell, probably to someone who doesn't know any bettter, for a near-obscene profit.

You're words appear to justify this; actually, they only rationalize it.

Well, we clearly have ourselves a guy who confuses manners with "I just tell it like it is, even when I'm wrong." By the way? Clue me in? Here, let me return the favor: It's called common sense. Some have it, some don't. You're clearly in the latter. Sorry, man.

Anyway, that's cool. I wish I could be tough like you. I had to settle for being smart instead. Ah well.

As this is not WnC where I'd be free to share my candid thoughts with you, I'll refrain from replying to you again.

Wow, just wow.

Have I said wow yet? LOL
