Knifemakers Christmas season gift exchange!

We haven't heard from Viljo Marrandi in this thread since before I mailed out the letters.

Viljo,
I do hope that you've received your letter. Did you?

Scott have you tried to contact him or have you heard anything it seems a little strange that you get no reply here.

what's worse is that if any of the girls in the household beat me to the mail they will MAKE ME WAIT TILL CHRISTMAS to open it.

I told my wife that I didn't know if I could wait until Christmas to open mine, if I got it early. She gave me "the look" and said "you really should!". I think that settled it for me! ;)

My knife should be completed by the middle of the week, then on to the sheath, then on to the new owner. I'm kind of ahead of schedule which is wierd, but a good thing. -Matt-

Mine is ready and will ship out monday to the new owner :) Not as fancy as some but I feel it fits the EDC role. Even lookjs friendly enough not to scare the sheeple....I hate the dust clouds when they scatter! Sorry for the crappy pic. Too tired from a long weekend to fight the camera.

Hey all,

Sorry I haven't been here for a while, I did get the message. Life's quite hectic due to job finding. I sent the knife out and it should be happily on its way. I sure hope US customs doesn't send it back, because our post office wasn't sure it's accepted to US.

i've had a few sales to australia and to new zealand and most of the time it is routine, twice i had teh post office people all confused about how it could be legal to mail dangerous weapons.... go figure. (and once was an actual kitchen knife) I explained that utility and kitchen knives are ordered overseas just like wrenches and aren't any more dangerous than a hammer.

Well here it is. It will be in the mail this week. I hope the new owner likes it. I have to say I have been stressed over this a bit.

Anyhoo the stats;
3 3/4 blade
7 1/2 overall
forged 1084
flat ground
spalted maple handle
brass pins
& some filework

Sure, here it is.

Hollow grind, hot-blued bolsters, mahagony handle. Hopefully fills the requirements of EDC :)

Nice knives, I am really waiting and wondering which one I am going to get. This is one of the most fun things I have done on the forums. I love looking at all the knives you guys are making and wondering which one is mine lol. Everyone has done a great job and I can't help but, lust a bit for everyone of them. Jim

Vilts & Steel shaper
Those are some fantastic Knives! Love the hot blued finish on your Vilts, and the spalted maple is exceptional!

vilts, steelshaper, bill, J-rod, and anyone i've missed since i last posted names...

wow!

all of them are sweet, it's just like 1b2v4u says- it's a blast waiting to see which one i'm going to get. -especially now that i've got mine mailed and the pressure is off :) :D

Vilts, i really like how the handle and bolsters come together. and the sharp point angle looks eally good for an every day user.

I'm jealous. Guess I will have to get in on the action next year.

Allen

It may be too late for this year, but it's not too late to give a gift.

A suggestion: Make a knife for someone special in your life and enjoy the feeling of giving something during this time of year!

That is a great suggestion. Working on this knife has been so much fun, and has really helped to push my skills.

Next year, there will probably be 2-3 people on my list receiving knives.

Charlie

p.s. I'm in already for next years exchange (just need to finish this years first )

Well, my knife and sheath are going out in tomorrows mail. I'm actually considering not putting the edge on it. Each of us has our own opinions of edge angle/geometry. The person I made mine for would be able to put an excellent edge on it, the way that he would want it. I would never do this with a non-knifemaker. I think it's a good idea.

What say the rest of you?
