Knives are not prybars!

But if people want to pry with their knives, so what?
Just don't expect to borrow my knife. :D

I am taking a list of names from this thread. Don't ask to borrow my knives either!!;)

You know what would knock that wall down? A tank. Which is expressly what ZT promotes their knives as.

Says "Built like a tank."
You know who builds tanks? Humans.
You know who built ZT knives? Humans.

And both use bolts in their construction too. :)

So it's accurate enough. ;)

It would easier to simply make a list of who can borrow your knives. :D

So answer my question. The truck question.

Built Ford Tough. Should you expect to use the truck as a battering ram?

The ZT (you keep bringing brand into it - I am a fanboy so I lose credibility yadda yadda) knives are advertised as tank like CUTTING tools.

The truck question, please.

A more accurate analogy would be this: Ford shows their trucks hauling loads of bricks while off-road in their TV ads, so you buy a Ford and try to haul a load of bricks off-road and the truck breaks. You then call Ford up and they say "Sorry, that's not under warranty! We only cover damage caused by driving on a flat road while the truck isn't carrying a load!"

Ugh. Here we go again with you bring in accurate information and/or examples.

Where specifically does ZT advertise their knives can pry? Don't bother looking because they don't. They use a bunch of undefined vague marketing terms to describe their knives. Then in their fine print they lay out what exactly their knives are for: cutting. Anything else and they can say your warranty is void. Just like with that ford truck, the specifics of what can be covered under warranty is in the fine print not in the flashy marketing bs.

I dont think this is really that difficult to understand.

I know I know. I am just pointing out the silliness of folks who believe the marketing or who bring it up in the defense or explanation of abusing a knife.

"Our knives are heavy duty tanks".

By this undefined marketing gimmick shouldn't the knife have treads and a Giant gun turret that shoots projectiles? I'm thinking M1 Abrams. Then again, I wouldn't pry with one of those either :D

BTW, not a fanboy or hater either. I have a few ZTs but I have many many other knives too. I appreciate all my knives for what they are. Cutting tools, some of them pretty damn cool as well.

Again I am with you my friend. I just used ZT as a convenient example of a manufacturer who has people silly enough to believe its own exaggerated claims. I'm sure the same could be done with many many brands.

I had a can of 7UP the other day, and no beach party spontaneously appeared. :(
I should sue those bastards!

Oh man - you mean I won't survive a fall from a cliff even if I have tacti-pants on?

Now you are ruining my prac-tac hopes and dreams.

I wonder if I can pry with those pants...

That depends on how long you don't wash them. ;)

"Built like a tank"... Most tanks have some sort of projectile or ballistic weaponry. None of my ZTs have any such features.

"Real beast"... I put my ZT 0301 up in my attic to hunt down and annihilate the squirrels that had chewed their way in. It did no such thing. It just lay there, motionless. Not very beast-like at all.

Clearly false advertising. Never buying another ZT again...

Hey man. I got a Case Peanut in my pocket. So you don't have to worry about me prying with your knife. Guy with a beast like "tank" in his pocket? Him you might have to worry about. :D

Now we are getting somewhere.

"Designed and manufactured to stand up to heavy-duty use, Zero Tolerance Knives are built of premium materials. The knives have earned a reputation among their devoted fans as being "built like a tank" or a "real beast" or even being—proudly—"overbuilt"."

Also if you notice in this advertising blurb, ZT is not even the one saying their knives are built like tanks, it is their devoted fans! Even better marketing snot rockets.

Seriously folks, use your brains. Buy a product for its attributes, not because the marketing makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

As long as he/she has tacti-pants on we are all safe.

How dare you? Fanboys...ATTACK!

I don't even think that "ROFLMFAO" is an adequate acronym for this one. Take a breath, mqqn.

I personally own several ZT's and have had great use out of them. Also had great luck with their customer service. With all of that being said, if they don't make these knives thicker, heavier, and more robust to handle non-cutting tasks, then why make them that way? My opinel cuts circles around any ZT I own, so if they were just made for cutting, why "overbuilt" and "like a tank" and sacrifice cutting ability?

For working with wood, I like a little extra "meat" to the blade.
Not 0.25" thick folders, but the 0.156" of the ZT's is nice.

I'm working on a hiking staff right now (well, not as I'm typing this...), and my Cold Steel Tuff lite got a slight warp to the edge (nice thin hollow grind).
So last night I was using my ZT 0801; the flat grind combined with the edge profile I gave it works great, but I can get around where the braches were and do the sort of twisting cuts needed without any issues. :)

Or in the woods, when I'm cutting something and do a quick twist at the end of the cut to get the unneeded material off quicker.

Just looking at my ZT's right now, I don't get why someone would try hard prying with them though...0.156" is a really, really thin pry bar.
