Knives aside, what are your other hobbies??

I have way too many hobbies. I make rings and chopsticks in addition to knives. Am starting on making pens, both with my dad and by myself. (He has the wood lathe, I have a small metal lathe.) I like to mountain bike- have to remember to repack the bearings! Lifting weights is great for endorphins and keeping in shape. Paintball is way too much fun. Get to dish out pain and keep in shape trying to not get dished out pain. Bowling is good too. Nintendo Wii. Camping. Hiking. The list goes on and on. :p Dan

Dan,

Isn't it amazing when one has a passion for so many things?
You certainly have the flawed gene all we collectors are
blessed with....

Endorphins and adrenalin pumping through ones body makes
one feel really good!

All the best,

I myself never did any fishing....

I used my "passion to collect things" to put together photographic
collections of the wild life (on land and underwater) and the
wild flora of Israel.

I therefore only hunted and fished with my camera....

When documenting the various species and putting together such
"collections" I usually planned to take it one step further and
create a good book/guide on each subject...

Documenting ALL the fish species of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea
took me and my marine biologist partner all of 20 years, but
we eventually got them all (nearly 500 species...).

I created a photographic setup that allowed me to photograph
freshly caught fish or fish that were kept on ice (to preserve
their colors) displaying their smallest features as clearly as if
they were hand painted....

Here are some examples.

For the book we chose to use the blue background.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I used to have hobbies, now I have a son....

My hobbies are kind of on the back burner... I do play a lot of golf tournaments though. I was a 5 handicap (USGA) but I kind of doubt my game is still at that range... I do play as often as I have time to.... Ultimately, I'd love to learn how to make putters and club heads... I'm certified to build, modify etc... clubs but that's it...

I also used to work in the yard a bunch and I restore furniture quite a bit as well...

David,

Amazing dedication, amazing result!

Thanks for posting my pics so they are visible without having to sign on. Someday I'll figure out how to do that. I'll then post more knife pics. :o

Best,
Rob

Any pool players? I played a LOT when I was younger and still love playing when I get a chance. This is one of my prized posessions. It is a 1965 Palmer Model 11 that I have had since the late 60's.

Four of the shafts are original and I replaced the foam in the case when it disintegrated using the original purple cloth.

Yes, I love to shoot pool!! I used to play a lot when I was younger. In fact, I learned how to play when I was really little. I used to be quite good. I still very much enjoy playing.

T.K.C - I see you are from New England. If you are in a convenient location to CT, perhaps we should play some time?

I used to be pretty good also. Nowadays, my mental game is better than my eyesight allows:D

I haven't touched my pool cue (that is no where near as nice as Peter's  ) in soooooooooooo long.

Growing up we had a 7' table in the basement.

I consider myself mediocre with occasional flashes of brilliance.
Key word occasional, very occasional ;)

I should go dust that puppy off and hit the poolroom.:thumbup::thumbup:

I may be wrong, however believe STeven may be quite handy with a cue-stick.

Woodworking is my part-time occupation as well as my hobby. I rewarded myself for graduating college by going to Scotland for a year to study furniture making. I recently got a copy of this picture showing some of the pieces I made there. I just wish I had one without my ugly mug in it.

Handy is a subjective term amigo, APA rated 3 last time I checked, have been a 4, have been my league's only male 2...it is a very enjoyable game! I use a Pechauer that was made for Seybert's Billiards supply with cocobolo and ivory diamond inlays, Predator 314 shaft when I am having fun, and when shooting seriously, Predator Sneaky Pete:

This is a GREAT cue, plays wonderfully, easily distinguished from a house cue, but not flashy, really affordable($350.00 or less, mine was $290 out the door for cash) so if you are having an off night, you don't look the fool for bringing out an $800.00 cue.

My cues all have soft Moori tips....I find that it really improves contact and controlability

Schmelke makes my break cue, 21 oz.:
