Knives aside, what are your other hobbies??

Thank you very much. :) The table on left was the first piece of furniture that I had ever made. I wish I had held onto it rather than sell it as it is fairly indicative of my personal design/build style, and would be great to have for sentimental reasons.

Steven..I finally took some pics of what I had made in Tokyo

..bad pics though..I was in a hurry

Woodworking is my part-time occupation as well as my hobby. I rewarded myself for graduating college by going to Scotland for a year to study furniture making. I recently got a copy of this picture showing some of the pieces I made there. I just wish I had one without my ugly mug in it.

That is some gorgeous work. My dad and I have the skills needed to make simple things like cutting boards. Anything more involved than that and it means disaster.

On the other hand, Dad's brother does some fantastic woodworking with beautiful furniture like yours. His son (my cousin James) does restoration work on wooden boats: http://www.emeraldmarine.com/

Handy is a subjective term amigo, APA rated 3 last time I checked, have been a 4, have been my league's only male 2...it is a very enjoyable game! I use a Pechauer that was made for Seybert's Billiards supply with cocobolo and ivory diamond inlays, Predator 314 shaft when I am having fun, and when shooting seriously, Predator Sneaky Pete:

This is a GREAT cue, plays wonderfully, easily distinguished from a house cue, but not flashy, really affordable($350.00 or less, mine was $290 out the door for cash) so if you are having an off night, you don't look the fool for bringing out an $800.00 cue.

My cues all have soft Moori tips....I find that it really improves contact and controlability

Schmelke makes my break cue, 21 oz.:

Steven,

Is there something that you have not done seriously
or on a professional level at some time or the other???

All the best,

Law practice or enforcement, politics, medicine, auto mechanics, big business, agriculture or import/export, golf, basketball, football or baseball, scuba diving or sailing.....

Other than that, that I can think of....no.:D

I think that our stuff may have come from similar factories, Sean...mine has a bit less sori, and a chu kissaki, other than that very similar....love the steel-like response to kiri oroshi...what does it weigh?....Mine is about 2 lbs, 10 oz for a 29" blade.

My favorite is a Josh, or Black Boar. but I still enjoy the Mucci 07.

My Hobby, other than shooting, came very close to being my vocation. The Lovett-Loveless Connection Knives really took off about that same time Manuela and I were supposed to start campaign one of the fastest Jet Cars around. It and its' sister cars belong to good friend K.C. Jones and Linda. It is the car in the far lane. I still miss being around them. Much less driving one of them. But We would have had to have been on the road 10 months out of the year.

Take a look and enjoy!

I think you have realized more dreams than many, Steven,
but recommend that you add SCUBA DIVING to your list as it
is definitely something different in a sort of mind blowing
experience way....

1010 grams

I had the tsuba replaced with the heaviest one they had, it brought the balance down quite a bit.

lol...they call it the "caddy" in the dojo:o

Oh, I did it David, once at 16, in Bermuda, and later at 19 in the U.S. Virgin Islands....it is fascinating....I just don't like that loss of illusion of control that occurs at 100 feet down when big things go swimming by....quite unsettling actually....it is no better with snorkeling either:eek:....I'm good with swimming pools.;)

Yes, Steven, the feeling that you are deep inside a hostile-to-air-breathing-creatures
world does get to you at first, kind of like being on some other planet.

But the surrounding beauty and the feeling of weightlessness is in the end
totally overpowering.

At least you tried it. Everyone should scuba dive at least once and preferably
in the warm and clear waters of a tropical coral sea....

I did it once years a go at John Pennecamp Coral Reef State Park in Florida. I did swim with the fishes:D barracudas to be exact and I loved it; although I symphatize with STeven's feelings about control in a "hostile" enviroment;)

I think it would be quite interesting to hear from some
of the "Major League" custom knifemakers something about their
extracurricular hobbies and activities.

Gil Hibben, for example, while many only know of him as a knifemaker
and designer, another side of him is that he has performed with many
singing and musical groups over the years, including the world-famous
Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He has also helped win two world championships
in Barbershop Chorus competitions with the Louisville Thorougbred Chorus.
In a totally different field, he holds a black belt in judo as well as a 6th-degree
black belt in Kenpo karate.

How is that for a starts?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Carpscot, that table on the left is awesome! I love the curves in it. Oh yeah I agree about the mug. :p
Thanks Will.:D My personal appearance has been labelled "unfortunate" on more than one occasion. I compensate for it by being surly. ;)

Aside from school and spending quality time on the forum I play Rugby for my college team. Quite a fun sport.

I was collecting comic book art for a while, have a nice little collection of art. No panel art. I have some Devon Massey art, but my favorite is a Kevin Taylor Princess Leia, in Jabbas palace. Just pen and ink, but a great piece.

I always admired the amazing art of freehand comic drawing.

Any chance you could post a picture of Kevin Taylor's pen and ink
Princess Leia, in Jabbas palace?
