Knives of the Blade Show 2011 • Art, Classics, and Innovation

Congratulations to all who attended this great event.
Harley and Adam parabens by titles and awards, I am even more happy knowing that our appreciation chimarão, due to the exchange with Rodrigo Sfreddo.

Hugs to all.

Too many gorgeous knives to single any one out.

As always Coop, Thank You for the exquisite images
of these very talented maker's work !

Take a deep breath, and we'll renew the tour.... :)

One of the more striking pieces that was delivered this weekend was small in size, BIG in style. Jon Christensen, MS crafted this small tree (bamboo?) into a folder.

Tommy Gann, MS won his merit at this show. Here are a couple that got him through:

And Tim Hancock's work is ALWAYS a delight:

Kevin already posted his Jason Knight piece, in a standalone thread:

... as did David Lisch, JS

Tom Overeynder is certainly one of the most versatile makers in our world. Anything he does, he does exemplary. Exhibit's A, B and C:

And when he joins in with Amayak Stepanyan, they are unstoppable!

I own an integral by John Parks, JS. He really has a great style.

Tom Ploppert REALLY did great work on these traditional folders. Check them out:

(And another Joe Mason appearance in this thread. )

I'll close this set with a subtle, but impactful stag hunter by Russell Roosevelt.

Thank you so much Coop and Makers. This thread has been very inspiring, the skill, quality of materials, work and craftsmanship put into the these functional pieces of art is astounding! Each knife sets the high bar in some way.

The photos show each and every detail perfectly!

Spectacular array of blades. Your photos really do these justice. Thanks for sharing!

Tom Ploppert was right across the isle from veteran slipjoint maker John C. Howser (maker of my avatar knife) at the BLADE show, and John pointed him out to me as an up and coming star. He said he makes a real nice knife, and only been doing it a couple of years! Beautifully photographed as well.

Thank you so much Coop

I saw alot of these blades but only briefly

It is nice to get to soak them in with your beautiful work

Scott McGhee has shown these knives to us here before. Like a great song, it deserves to be played over and over and over...

Thanks for the kind words Coop. Your eye for detail and ability to capture the essence of a knife is amazing. Great to see so many beautiful knives captured so well.

Jim Thanks for all your hard work It is a lot of fun to see all the knives I missed at the show

In the world of Loveless-style knives, Thad Buchanan rises to the top.

I showed an earlier knife by Jody Muller. Now he teams up with Michael Burch in a collaboration.

And Michael Burch on his own:

THIS was one of those moments where I thought: Who is Nathan Carothers, and why haven't I noticed him? SHAZAMM! Well, I'm paying more attention now. :)

Steve Fecas' pearl folder is clean:

As are these two from Mike Pellegrin:

Butch Ball is a new CKCA member, but no newcomer to great folders!
orig.jpg

Dan Farr takes a classic hunter and refines it till it is a Rolls Royce of hunters.
orig.jpg

The inescapable beauty of Curt Erickson and Julie Warenski-Erickson's knife in sheath demands center stage!
orig.jpg

Bertie Rietveld's cool factor starts with his mark in the stanhope lens, and continues with the pleasing shape and the sliding paired bolster-lock.

Finally the ultimate in cleanliness is derived by this pearl 5-blade stockman from Richard Rogers.

I'm getting close, but I'm not done yet. Still working on edits and the printer is running while I'm doing so.

To those makers awaiting edits OR prints, please continue to be patient. I'm doing all I can. :D

Thanks Scott. This gave me a big smile. I truly take pride in my attempts to find the interesting components of a knife and show it to it's best.

This comes not only in showing the view, but HOW you show that view: Large inset or to scale? Which direction? Can I make the impossible plausible?

There's some smoke and mirrors, for sure. But we are all attuned to advertising, and we LOVE good advertising. Lol!

Thanks to all.

Thank you Coop.
Your thread really is the highlight of Blade Show coverage.
:D

Thank you for the show, Coop. Never heard of this maker either. Is this knife integral made ?

Doesn't get much better than this for a Bowie/Sheath combo imo. Cool, the way he matched the sheath tooling to the checkering on the handle.
The sheath in by Bob Bibbitt, a saddlemaker from Texas unless I'm mistaken. He's very good.
Also like how Tommy does his spine in damascus. A nice touch that you don't see very often if at all.

Yes, Nathan's knife is full integral and, if you can believe it, those highly finished scales are dyed maple burl.

I've seen Nathan the Machinist all over the forum Hi, my friend! You need to post IN HERE more often. :D

Kevin, I'm with you. What a great sheath.

Ebbtide: Much appreciation.

Coop

GREAT work Coop!! Thanks for taking the time to post all the pictures, and CONGRATS on the well deserved ABS award.

It is a pleasure beyond words to see all these great knives in their glory, captured by your lens!
