Knives You Hate!!

Ah that there is the crux. Recons and american lawmans cut quite well. What are you comparing them to, that you say they don't do well? I can understand just hating for no reason(haters gonna hate) but hating for the wrong reason?

I'm comparing them to, say, a Spyderco Stretch 2 or even a Sebenza.

Everything is arguable. Some of my previous response was my opinion from experience. So, in my experience, the Lawman and Recon 1 don't cut very well compared to some of my other folders. To you, they may be the best slicers around. I respect your opinion, as you're entitled to one. Just keep in mind that a lot of things are a matter of perspective..

Benchmade 275 Adamas folder. The handle is just way too thick in my book at all most three quarters of an inch. Sure, it's meant to be a hard use folder. But I really don't see the need for that wide of a handle. It just seems like big, fat old pocket brick to me sad to say (and I thought Zero Tolerance folders were whopping thick beasts).

Yes, but just because these two knives are not up to your standards of performance, you hate the whole company?

Anyway I'm out of these thread. Too much darn hate in here. Enjoy your prejudices. ;)

No, the Tri-Ad lock doesn't help the knives cut. It IS, however, the strongest lock out there.

Now, to address the rest of your points - the ergonomics are pretty bad, eh? Hmmmm...... Are you an alien? Or have very tiny, or freakishly gigantic hands? If not, erm, no. There is NO way the ergonomics are "pretty bad". I agree with you about the blade steel being decent, but not great. I also agree that their blade coatings are a joke. They might as well be latex house paint. The bonus is there's a really nice stonewashed finish under that crap, and it's very easy to get to.

I'm also calling absolute, total, complete BS about you having to strop them after cutting a cardboard box. My firsthand experience has shown CS's AUS-8 to zip through tons of cardboard before it needs any attention at all.

I don't hate the company for not being able to cut well. I hate the company because the only thing they talk about is their lock. Consequently, I hate their advertisement. They advertise the lock by cutting hanging pigs, cows, and bamboo, and attach weights to the spine of the blade. I know I certainly never have to do that with my EDC knife. So if I'm gonna make a folding pocket knife, I want one that is designed to be a folding knife, not a gimmicky "folding fixed blade".

What does a company talk about in trying to make it's product different from others of the same category? Of course, it's the thing that they do differently. Besides, they arent't selling a low quality knife. Whatever you say about a recon 1 and an american lawman, they're not junk. Apparently, Cold Steel has a target market(of which you're not one). They are promoting their products to those who want strong locks on their folders(whatever their reasons are) and not all are mall ninjas either. Can you blame them for promoting something which they excel at? Are you hating them because they just happened to come up with a very strong lock and emphasize this point to the people that care?

Do you hate Bugatti when they tout the Veyron as the fastest production automobile?

Recon 1 is a solid knife. I have the clip point regular and mini... and there isn't much they can't handle on edc duty... or on any duty for that matter. As for the steel not holding an edge for too long--not a big deal, I can sharpen a knife. For the recon 1, all I need is the bottom of a coffee mug and I'm good to go. Great blades for a great value... though I cannot wait to get my hands on the ones with the steel upgrade. That will prove to be a game-changer in a big way, I believe.

Cold Steel doesn't make a bad product, but the way they market tends to rub people the wrong way. Personally.... if they would upgrade their steel offering to atleast s30v, I dare say I would have to buy one. XHP on one run of folders isn't enough to get me in the game

If you need a fully serrated folder with a blade over 4" cold steel is the only game in town.

I respect the opinion of everyone who loves them (a LOT of guys love them) but I just don't like the looks of the sebenza. I've handled one, and that didn't change how I felt about them. In my opinion (which probably doesn't count for anything at all!) they're waaaaay overpriced for what I think is an ugly knife. Again though, this is just my opinion and I definitely respect everyone else's. Everyone's answers are just personal preference, really.

I dislike counterfeit knives and junk brands like Fury and the rubbish you tend to find in BudK catalogues.

I also dislike the cheap mediocre quality knives that are sold at big name sporting goods and discount stores. You all know the types. It's becoming virtually impossible to find quality knives unless you shop online or happen to have a specialty store in your area that sells them.

I don't dislike any particular major knife brands, although I tend to stay away from Gerber, Buck, and cheap Chinese made SOGs, Kershaws, and CRKT's, etc.. As for Cold Steel, their marketing hype is just that. Hype. They have a few knife designs I like and some I don't. I just don't buy into their overblown strength claims. To me, they're no different than any other reputable knife in terms of quality.

I agree, budk has been pissing me off for years.

Hate to intrude on the Cold Steel discussion, but am I the only one to know about the full cardboard sides construction in Gerber/Blackie Collins and Walther P99 nylon sheaths? I've never heard anybody comment about them, ever... I would think that is truly hard to top...

I hate every knife I've ever seen at my local flea market and on every late night infomercial I've ever watched.
