Knives you've seriously considered buying, but never pulled the trigger on

Buck 119 Special. Wanted one since I was a kid. Just never got around to getting one...
I find that to be surprising. You always struck me as a guy with a monstrous collection. I think that near every common Buck model has passed through my hands over the years, except the General, which I have been eyeing lately. It might be discontinued? Unsure. I gave a female teacher a 119 on the north shore of Lake Athabasca years back. Then I was down south wandering through a Walmart and saw one. It ended up in my cart. I didn't realize that the old 110 could be had in a drop point until recently, how interesting .

Never saw a knife priced under $500 that wanted to buy that I didn't buy.

Anything over $500 is out of my price range and nothing I'm concerned about.

Yeah, I have a few folders but I'm down to pretty much just three fixed blades. Most of my fixed blade needs are met, so if I get a 119, it would be just to scratch the itch.

The Buck Custom Shop is probably the best option for me when I finally get around to ordering one. This is the way...:thumbsup:

1. Jay Fisher knives. I think his styles are not what I seek in a knife. And his personality is off putting to myself.
2. Shiva Kai. Seems too angry all the time.
3. Bob Dozier. Simple reason being I am not worthy to own a custom Dozier. Love his styles.

Cheburkov Raven (Voron) - maybe someday...

I've thought much more seriously about an Umnumzaan Tanto. I'm not really sure why I want one, honestly; but I'll end up buying one at some point. One of the reasons I haven't is that many of the ones posted on the Exchange have been only $10-15 below dealer prices (unless things are missing). Now that the s45vns are showing up, I'll go that route - but it will be awhile because I'm not paying dealer prices or higher for a second hand knife that I figure I'm not going to like anyway.

Spartan SHF. I've looked so many times. I love the cool scale graphics, it just seems like a USA made knife I should have. Honestly though the blade reminds me so much of a Buck 110 that I just haven't been able to pull the trigger. I don't understand why there's no sharpening choil, it's a perfect candidate to start recurving just like the Buck if used and sharpened much. I have an Akribis and a Pallus, they're nice (the Pallus may have the weakest detent of any of my knives beside maybe a SoCom elite manual).

Koenig Arius. Another one I just feel I should have in my collection but the aesthetics don't work for me no matter how many times I see one.

CRK nat micarta31. I have a nat micarta 21 insingo and a Zaan, and think I'd like a 21/31 drop point but I don't carry them enough to make me think a drop point would be any different.

Hinderer Full Track. I definitely want one but passed when they were available and now they just seem pricey. If I could find one w/a blade grind I want I'd jump now I think, regardless of the price.

I have 10 Hinderers and 7 Olamics, it's not like the above are out of reach, just creating some vacillating. I always seem to find something else when I'm considering one of the above.

If you want a choil, it's pretty easy to do: mine was done with a simple Smith's diamond rod. a dremmel will work too lol. I'm going to continue to use and sharpen the others and decide if I want a choil.

It's that time of year again. Yes, I'm going to make this a tradition.

Yes, I like killing a joke.

This mutated into a list of 149 knives, everything I can remember thinking "wow that's expensive", or "C'mon, where would you use that, Town Boy?" All the way back to the Gil Hibben Double Shadow.

Lots of those knives are an easy "no" anymore. These are the ones that still live up to the thread's title.

I've had a few but most recent was the North Arm Skaha 2. I finally came up on the waitlist after more than a year and decided to not buy one.

My problem is that when I see something new: my palms start sweating...
They ALL make the list.

I guess I'm lucky, my list is short.

In the past I have regretted not buying a Camillus Cuda Max stiletto-model. I think they were $250 when they first came out. To ease my regret I've tried to convince myself that maybe they suffered from some sort of flaw, like lock-rock, etc, so I don't feel so bad ;).

Nowadays they cost considerably more on the used market. But I can live without one. My regret has faded, and there's no way I'd pay so much for a knife I can't examine first, and one that I can't return for refund. Not to mention one I have no practical need for.

On the other hand, there are a few knives that I came very close to buying, some around $400-$500, and now I'm VERY glad that I didn't buy them, because I have since acquired knives that I consider far superior, feel a much greater affection for, and at a much lower price.

Just saying "NO" can work both ways. For me, it's mostly paid off in my favor.

EDIT: Oh, I just remembered, for a long time I regretted not buying a bunch of Westbury Sales Co. knives when I was a kid. My regret was based on childhood nostalgia. But that regret faded when I discovered the poor quality of their knives, and realized again that I had no practical need for them, and that after a bit of fondling and reminiscing they would just end up in a box with my other misfit knives.

Most knives don’t stay in this category long for me. I either think about it for a week or two and buy it, or I lose interest. But a couple that have been on my mind lately are:

- Richard Rogers Slim Utility: I wanted the tealtanium one, but then I found out it was on washers. Then I thought about the carbon fiber one, but a guy I was talking to said the pivot backs out, so I second guessed it.

- a Shiro Neon clone: not really interested in spending the money on the real thing. Just mainly curious about the ergos and to see if I’d actually like it.

- a older hunting style fixed blade ~8 1/2” long with brass bolster and magnacut or nice stainless blade: don’t have much need for one lately, as I don’t camp in the winter typically

Spyderco Delica. I really like them. It's the right dimensions that I like in an EDC folder, but they are expensive in my country (South Africa). I can never justify the price for one when I can get a different knife from a different maker that offers a model with comparable steel, fit and finish for 1/4 of the price that a Delica goes for. Everytime I have a Delica in my hand I just go "Yeah, nah" and move on without buying it.

There are a lot of them. I have a folder on my computer filled with book marks organized by type and brand to keep track of them all. The reasons for not buying them are either: availability; I'm waiting for the company to do something different with the knife so it will be a better fit for me (like waiting for the ESEE4 to do the rounder HM handles); too much of a duplication of another knife I already have; or it's hard to justify the not overly useful knife for the price. The main reason is often that I just haven't gotten around to it yet, as there is always that 1-12 knives that will have a higher priority over the others at any given time.

I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a Medford Praetorian off and on for years now. I think they’re nice but I just can’t justify the price.

I guess my list is about as obvious as they come: Large Sebenza, any Shirogorov, any Herman knife. I'm sure I'll buy them eventually, knowing me.

Tops Silent Hero, I've come close to pulling the trigger a few times but my RC6 (Esee 6) keeps pulling me back.
