Knives you've seriously considered buying, but never pulled the trigger on

A Spyderco knife.......
I know they are quality knives.
Waiting for a model that I really like.
Much like the Benchmade Tax.........I find Spyderco puts a premium on their knifes also.
Even models made in China/ Tiawan.
Can't justify the price. Too many knives of equal quality at a better price.

And Spyderco used to be one of the highest value knives on the market before they instituted their two MAP
increases. But a company can charge whatever it wants.

Rockstead.

The blades are beautiful BUT I know I would hardly ever use them for fear of scratching the blade. I don't buy safe queens.

:(

A custom Ruana Bowie Rudy was going to make for me. I still have the drawing he sent me but I was just short on funds at the time. Big mistake in the long run.

Manly Wasp. S90V for 65 EUR is very good deal, but a few years ago when they were available everywhere I couldn't decide because I disliked slipjoints. Now I want it, but they completely disappeared from local stores and I prefer to avoid international shipping.

Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2. I liked this quite unique composite blade, but back then I wasn't sure about spending that much for a knife.

Kershaw Skyline. Back then I thought a handle without 2 full steel liners can be a problem and before I changed my mind, bearings flippers with the same steel for the same or lower price already appeared.

Ontario Carter Prime. I liked it when I first saw the pictures and was waiting for my local stores to get it. It took so long that when they finally did, I already lost interest and moved on to other knives.

Rat 1/2 in D2. I don't know if they are all like that, but my country had only versions with coated blade or fake carbon fiber handle. I dislike both, but I was thinking maybe D2 is worth it. Before I could decide D2 became more common and I got other knives without any of these design flaws.

Kizer Feist. I read earlier models had quality problems that supposedly were later fixed, but since there was no different name, box or other way to easily identify improved series, I wasn't sure if I want to risk getting a bad one. And soon after I found Real Steel G5 to try a front flipper.

Spyderco Dragonfly / Delica. I still think about it, but probably won't get any of them. I want to get it for ZDP-189 steel, but every time I go to a knife store site, I can't decide because of plastic handle for that price.

I’ve thought about getting a Strider to see what all the fuss is about with the cult like following, but can’t bring myself
to pay $650+ for the thing.

2893FE43-F994-4E5C-A0AE-0C21241303DB.jpeg I’ve always wanted a Randall, specifically the Tom Clinton. I got close on eBay a while back but sniped at the end.

I just can’t justify the cost on what wouldn’t get a lot of use. Pic stolen from google images.

Spyderco Siren
Spyderco Native Chief
Spyderco SpyOpera
Benchmade Mini-Coalition

Some of the older Al Mar fixed blades. They've had some pretty giant jumps over the years. For instance, back around 1996, I could have bought a "Warrior' for $170, then I thought about it in 2005ish and they were $400ish, and I figured "Ok, that's a big jump, they'll probably stick around there for a while. FFwd to 2020, and they're $750 - 900 for a common mint example.

.

Among all the knives I've passed by, the Southern Grind Spider Monkey deserves special mention.

I had just bought a Mini CQC-7, and it was an expensive knife to me. It didn't feel all that special. Then, there I was, looking at the Spider Monkey, hearing that it was "like an Emerson, but better".

I was uncomfortable carrying and using the Emerson. What was I supposed to do with a knife that was even more expensive than that?

The Spider Monkey was what finally made me realize that I wasn't going to find any more satisfaction with modern folders by throwing more money at knives. It may sound strange, but the decision to spend less has led me to looking for knives that offer more perceived value for the money, and more satisfaction with the knives that I do buy.

It has not stopped the list from getting longer.

Spyderco Shaman and Police 4. I've phased out of larg(er) folders and it's good I never bought these. I prefer slicey knives.
Koenig Arius. Almost pulled the trigger on a recent drop, backed out due to price. $950+ for CF Ti folder with M390. I couldn't justify that price when CRK can offer inlayed damascus folders for $600-700 and US custom knives with damasteel blades were $1100-1200
Vero Impulse. Never had a Bestech and the pricing was premium considering it wasn't made by Reate, or WE.

Freeman 451, just seems a little to big.
Hinderer, the 3 inch models are a little spendy for what you get IMO.

Sebenza. Definitely has that modern classic vibe to it but every time I even consider it I think what else I could get with the 400+€..

Spyderco Para2 tanto. Originally for sale from Knifcenter for about $185.00. Now they are selling for twice that much or more on EBay.

seems like a cool knife but there’s no way I could spend that much on a basic Spyderco.

Klotzi Swiss Border Guard folder. I love the looks of it and like a button lock, but I just can't make myself click the "buy" button

I've often considered re-buying a knife. Mainly the Spyderco Southard and CRK Sebenza.

So many people love them, maybe I didn't give them a chance?

Sebenza... everytime I consider one seriously I lust after something else in the price range. Last time it was a pair of Ultratechs (work knife and normal edc) and now I am in the buying mood and I am after an XM.
