Knives you've seriously considered buying, but never pulled the trigger on

I've never been able to pull the trigger on a Tops knife that had some goofy name. The only one I have is the Ferret. Love it, but I only received, ironically, because of the name. My wife saw it and saw it what it was called. Our first pet together as a married couple was a ferret, so of course she had to buy it.

There are a lot of high end knives that I want but probably won't pull the trigger on for the foreseeable future. However the one that I can afford but just keeps jumping in and out of my cart is the Cold Steel Taipan. I love how big of a beefy blade it is. Nice wide tang. Looks like it would be tough as nails...I just have no use for a double edge dagger of that size. I still want one though.

Shaman...the massive steel chunk back spacer annoys me with its weight and appearance...I feel like they could save an ounce (or more) by going standoffs.

Shorttime you couldn’t find one Buck to put on your list?
I want a Winkler Belt Knife the slightly larger version of my first and only Winkler. The Blue Ridge Hunter.
Here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains i find a lot of people carry fixed blades as their EDC. As do I about 50% of the time now.
Looking to pull the trigger on some Finish Puukka’s. I think they are cool and I recently found out i have 2% Scandinavian blood in me? Hence the craving for Puukka! Lol
Plus i like saying Puukkaaaa!

David, you're right. The Selkirk and Compadre were ones that I looked at.

I'm going to have to add to the list

Cold Steel AD-15 .

I'd love to have one just to play with the Scorpion Lock , but hard to justify the price for a knife I'm not sure I'd use .

Buck 103 Skinner.
Seems there is always something else I need more. Besides, I already have a couple/few/several knives that are good for skinning a critter.

Interesting thread. Here are some of the knives that I never managed to get my hands on, for a variety of reasons :
  1. Spyderco Slysz Bowie - This is based on Marcin Slycz's custom design. I was on the fence for a long time (hard to get into terms with a folding bowie concept), but when I was ready to buy it … I couldn't find the knife anywhere on the primary market.
  2. GEC Ancient TC Barlow - Charlie Campagna SFO. I wasn't able to get the knife from CollectorKnives.net since I was in a meeting and couldn't respond to their "Early Reserve" text message within the stipulated 5 mins and the knife was gone forever. I can always pay a premium and pick up the knife on the secondary market but it's not my taste.
  3. Randall Made Knives - My fixed blade grail knife. I would love to get my hands on a Model 12 - Bear Bowie. However their wait time is crazy. I don't have patience to wait for more than 6 years to get my hands on brand new Model 12.
  4. Shirogorov NeOn - My folder grail knife. Elegant EDC folder. However out of my budget at this time. Maybe some day !!
Thanks for allowing me to vent. Cheers :)

I haven't been down that route yet since I just purchased my first knife last week lol! But question for you about the ferret, brother... That is the next knife I was looking at due to the blade size, and was thinking of actually using it to help me whittle smoking pipes.. how has the edge held up is my question? I don't want to have to constantly sharpen that thing then the blade is down to nill after a year or whatever. Thanks for reading this and your time, Steely

Greetings:)
You know, I haven't used it enough to get a firm idea how well it will hold an edge under use. Tops, I believe, is pretty well regarded in terms of how they heat treat. I would say that it would take a long time to wear it out. It's a thick little cuss. I use it mostly as a quick to get to work beater for opening packages and breaking down boxes. I keep it dangled off my belt at about 1 o'clock. Keeps me from having to fish out my folder.
I like the little bugger. Can certainly so worse with when it comes to a 2" blade.

A Decepticon. Had the money plenty of times but always over looked it as a purchase at the time. It's the one knife I truly pine for.

If you want a Randall, order from an authorized dealer. You'll have your knife in less than a year.
