Knocking off the Shine 30 Day Challenge

Big oof today. Someone asked to borrow a knife to cut something. Immediately reached into the pocket for the trapper about to ask what he needed cutting. But instead he cut me off with:

You don't have a better knife?

Ouch, my guy. Never did find out what needed cutting. And I'm only old enough to be his father, thankyouverymuch. No cussing under my breath as I walked away. Maybe.
Kinda an opposite story here to help cheer ya up…

I had my sister and her boys over a couple weekends ago. We had the “gun” safe open looking at a couple rifles. I also have a few of my “prized” knives in there on shelves, a mixture of slipjoints and moderns. My 11 year old nephew says “Hey! You got some “oldies” in there! I like the “oldies.”

Warmed my heart. From the mouth of babes and all that.

The sole criteria my wife has for what she considers a good knife is how well it can slice an apple. If the blades is to short, it's rejected, if the blade is to fat it's rejected. I'll give this one an 8/10. Although when I asked my wife she said "the straight blade looks weird" 🤣

Thanks for posting that. Made me chuckle.

Its still pretty shiny but I'm working on it.

Sorry I have been super busy and haven't kept up with the thread. The knife has been doing its job though.
Great shot! But you're not keen on the coins getting a patina too....? ;):) Get those BU or Mint Sealed in your pockets and knock off the crisp lines 🤣 N.B.Why isn't anybody trying to knock the shine off stainless too????😁 Well all you need is some paper and willpower 😍

That is the shiny set! Lol. I actually call the other set with more character the "fun set"

Here is one of my favorites. A "woody"

And one that is completely brown

That s&m is stainless. It's going to take quite a bit of effort to knock the shine off. Longer than a month for sure lol!

Very nice coins, get some paper to that tidy S&M I like to give my user CASE stainless the glazed or matte look, quite a bit of work and potentially wound inducing... 😁 but make for great WIP photos

Thanks, Will

Yeah! As of tomorrow, I'll be carrying & using this 112 every day for six months straight, and the darn blade's still kinda shiny.:(

At full risk of sounding like a negative nancy...

Such minimal use has absolutely thrashed this edge. It's not butter knife dull but it needs more than the strop. It will get a good sharpening but this has really been a lesson in how spoiled we are these days. But... thick plastic strapping: 1 / True Sharp: 0

The current plan is to put a fairly thin edge on as a secondary bevel and then add a micro bevel or convex the edge with a belt. She really needs help.

I'm actually ok with TruSharp, its not the best steel in the world and definitely goes dull faster than other steels, but I've had decent luck with mine. Sometimes it's nice to not have to worry about rust, like during a swampy midwest summer.

Can't fault the logic but all the same I'm glad this isn't all we have in life anymore.
