like others have said, this kind of stuff is why I only buy new and from places that I know wouldn't be selling fakes (large gun shops, reputable online knife retailers, local knife retailers). I don't want to deal with the brain damage of not knowing if I got scammed or wasted money a fake knife. Yeah, it's a little more expensive going my route, but I also have zero concerns about whether or not my $150-$400 knife is a counterfeit.
Regarding the OP's knife in question, I would send it in since that sounds like the only way you'll know for sure. It'll suck to be without a knife that you just bought for a few weeks but you'll be able to forget about this and free up brain space for other concerns.
