Lanny's Clip Thread

Does anyone make a cheaper (under $150) LC? Seems this pattern is limited to customs and the case/Bose collaborations.

Sadly, not that I've found. If I were to save up to own one expensive slipjoint, the LC is what I'd purchase.

I searched high and low for a cheaper version to no avail. There are some blade shapes that are close, but with the wrong frame, and some frames that are close but with the wrong blade. Closest I found was the GEC 72 cody scout clip lockback, but it has that hump in the middle of the frame. The Madison Barlow from Northwoods has the right frame, but it has a Barlow bolster, and the clip blade they make had the nick forward of the clip inside the swedge, which is a big turn off for me. The new GEC 83 clips are close in blade shape too, but the frames have that same hump in the middle.

That said, I have a custom Lanny's in the works from a south african maker Timothy LaCombre who is coming in VERY reasonably priced, on par with some of the nicer GECs. I've also seen a K'roo Lanny's that looked pretty stout around somewhere. I hear he's pretty reasonable in his prices as well.

Since it's a Tony Bose original pattern and the only production company he works with is Case, you probably won't find a cheaper production version. The way I look at a Case Bose, is it takes more money, but delivers more joy, so buy one Case Bose instead of 3 GEC :)

Lanny's clip is my favorite among traditional knives. I recently acquired a Lloyd LC with SS blade and ivory handles, and looking forward to getting a couple more with other handle materials, as well as one with a lock back. Since I am new to BF I guess I am not allowed to post pics yet. I'll do it later when authorized. Happy Hallowen! :ghost:

You can post pics, you just have to host them elsewhere, like Photobucket or Flickr. If you'd like to host pictures here on Bladeforums, you must have a paid membership.

Side note: My name is almost up on Dr. T's list for my Carbon fiber end capped Lanny's! :D

Follow this link to a brief description of using Photobucket to host your traditional knife pics. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...r-grandfather-s-knife?p=12638508#post12638508. Can't wait to see your Lloyd LC. Welcome to the madness!

Does Craig Brewer have a website or a dealer he works through? Having a lot of trouble finding him through Google... Thanks!

No website that I am aware of, Craig's a member and has a thread with pics of his knives. Email craig6 AT embarqmail DOT com
