Sometimes cost and quality go hand and hand, and that is usually very evident. Gransfors Bruchs comes to mind, as does any number of knifemakers on here. However, I wouldn't buy a 12c27 Bark River knife over a 12c27 Mora just because it's fit and finish are prettier... I think back to the days when a Kabar Warthog II was the most expensive knife I owned, and how much I trusted it and how much I used it. Use builds trust, I think... I wouldn't rely on any blade no matter how expensive unless I've had extensive experience using, maintaining, etc. the blade. If you throw footwear into the picture... I guess I've kinda lucked out as far as that goes. I have a pair of New Balance 473's that were the last pair in stock in JC Penny on Black Friday three years ago. They're still going strong three years later and are the best running shoes I've ever had. I've done many packing trips in them and would trust them on a cross country trek for sure. Cost to me? 35 bucks. I love softsoled mocs as well, they're very reasonably sized and lightweight so they make a great secondary pair for packing. 35 bucks a pair, I'd trust my life to them. I think I have more miles on Converse assault boots than any other shoe, and those costed 65 bucks. The uppers are still in factory condition, but the soles peeled off this winter when working on a demolition job...
