I've got a few friends that are archaeologists, and spend a lot of time up north in the "wilds" of Alberta. Everybody on their sites carries bear spray all the time. They say that the polar bears are the worst. They evolved to hunt not-unintelligent mammals like seals, so they are skilled at lying in wait and watching for patterns in their pray. If you are in polar bear country, you have to vary your routine so that they don't figure out just exactly when in the morning you'll be halfway between the mess tent and the outhouse...

polar bears are also the only creature known to hunt man and will put a paw over their face while stalking you so you can't see their eyes or nose... Scary.. but they are WAY further up north from me...

They disguise themselves from you!!!! .... sheeeeeiiiit.... !

Yeah, polar bears are scary. Of course, a cougar has been seen stalking an old lady walking her dog not a block from my house, and a month or so ago there was a (probably) black bear rooting around about 40 feet behind my back fence. Neighbors told us about it when they saw that we were planning on letting the kids sleep in a tent in the back yard that night. Kids said "Nah, we think we'll stay inside tonight!" :D

They stalk you in Blizzards!!!!!!!.... Why would anyone want to live in an area where the hunters can so easily become the hunted?... that's a little too much testosterone for me....

Agreed... we hit tonight and meet on the battlefield tommorrow morning.... deal!.... oh and... so whaddya got?...

The only other wildlife I've seen around that's odd to me is a ruffed grouse and mule deer. We have this crabapple tree in the backyard and all winter long last year we had mule deer walking through our yard to munch on the crabapples. My wife gets this funny look in her eye when she sees them back there and keeps threatening to sharpen a broom handle and go after them. "We wouldn't have to buy meat for months!"
