Lets hear it for the ASHBM!!

They're ok

I've still been meaning to grab a CG user to go with these two (missed out on timmy's excellent deal the other day:()

I am very sad that I missed it, you know I would have made it if I could…. :grumpy:

I am now again within range to make the next one, so unless there's something I have to make you can count me in on the next…. :)

That pic was pre-flogging then I presume?

Too hot right now. Probably wait until September.

This is mine - a great 2nd-hand purchase, and an illustration of why we don't need those huge choils. There is plenty of real estate for my first finger below and in front of the talon hole, and I can choke up on this a lot more comfortably than I can on a B11 or B8.

I dont mind a full size choil on a chopper. Moves the balance point a little forward, and gives that capability to do detail work... In a pinch, anyway.

My point is that even the choil-less version has a ricasso that works perfectly well for choking up for detailed work - in fact better than several of my Busses with finger choils that require you to reach around a broad talon hole extension. I don't think a choil will do much to change the balance, but it will let you reach a little further down the blade to get your first finger closer to the balance point.

Playing around with the ASHBM. I though that I was going to strip it. But I love the color combo. First did some yard work sweated some cutting branches, split some coconuts and then tackle the watermelon. A lot fun was had. A little picture with his cousins the NMSFNO satin with hand shaped black canvas handle.

Well, if you get tired of the SHBM, drop me a line :) ! Been looking for a user, but not abuser!

You can't compare the choil on a Basic model to a choil on a full tang model. The Res-C is the problem. Not the talon hole. That Res-C guard adds just too much space to make the choil comfortable. At least for my hands that's the case.

I've also read that the no choil and choil version of the ASHBM have the same exact amount of cutting edge. I'm not sure if that's true and I don't understand how that could be but it might be the case nonetheless.

On some of the coated choil-less ASHBMs I've seen pictures of, there is a noticeable gap between the plunge line and the start of the sharpened edge, so it probably is the case the there is not much difference in sharpened edge length in comparison to one with a choil. As you can more or less see in the picture of my LE ASHBM, the sharpened edge does go back almost all the way to the plunge line, so I would expect it to have around 0.5" more cutting edge than the version with the choil.

I've had both to compare side by side, there was literally no difference in edge length between the two.

That right thars a winner sir. I'm certainly jealous.

Beautiful ASHBMs everyone. Thanks for posting.

I wish there was a tigerhide micarta version. I'd jump at a chance to grab one of those.
