Lets see some Hinderer action

Haven’t posted mine in awhile…my Gen 4 non flipper, pre lock bar insert, running on Teflon. Smoothest knife I own…
and gave the Micarta scale a break and installed the dark green on the 3ā€ Wharncliff for a change of pace.

I feel like Hinderer is getting more and more popular, with the new X, new magnacut steel, and supposedly their bringing back the full track. Still expensive, but it wasn’t long ago, that it was really difficult to get any Hinderers, never mind the color/blade combination you want, they seem to be expanding. 🤘

I see everyone is crazy about Magnacut. I wonder what would be the optimal HRC for this steel. I saw one Hinderer magnacut Project X in the Exchange being sold, with the HRC below 60. Isn't that a bit too low?

Medford is the one who was heat treating Magnacut below 60. But Hinderer is not heat treating the steel at its optimally either as he's going at 60-61 if I recall correctly.

63-65 according to Larrin.

That sounds low to me, but it seems all of the big manufacturers, run steel a little below what is considered ā€œgoodā€. I remember a ZT 0909 testing around 59, similar to what CRK ran their S35VN at.

I believe someone tested a 20CV Hinderer and also got around a 59….?
Perhaps these steels would be way too chippy @ 61 (or 64 for Magnacut), or hard to sharpen for most folks, and that is the reason…?
