Real nice example, Christian. That knife was made by Empire ca. 1900-1920 IMO. The punch is distinctive.

Nice Keen Kutter.....

Christian - Really nice old Keen Kutter HJ with a fantastic etch !!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::)

Thanks guys.

So I have my first Empire knife. Cool.

BTW how do you sharpen the punch on this thing? Sharpening the punch on the HJ2 is a relatively simple affair with its straight edge. Treat it as you would a pair of scissors. But I'm at a loss as with regards to this Empire punch.

Sharpening an Empire Punch!
They are essentially "hollowed-out" knife blades. The outer edge is sharpened at nearly a right angle - about 80 degrees. When it raises a slight wire edge on the inside, turn it over and lightly remove the wire edge with fine stone/abrasive, holding it up just enough to keep the nail-pull edge off the stone, maybe 5 degrees. I find it very easy, once you figure these things out! Always use fine abrasives, or the punch will wear out quickly for no good reason.

Thanks a lot Charlie.

Did you get my email? I've got a question for you.

I just purchased a great GEC Northfield 852211 HJ5 in jigged bone from Dan Parke. Not my first by far but glad as heck to add to my stable of young stallions. Ready to roll. Please stop by and look at this beauty Charlie designed at least.

Yes sir! I still have mine from that run too. These were well built and I love the thick jigged slabs on them. Thanks for showing yours, chisumr! Made me look for mine, get it out and admire it all over again.

And here it is now. I wish you would do some more of these, Charlie!:D

She's just what I wanted. Not mint, but in sound working condition and with plenty of life left in her.
