Lets see those shops! PICS

Gee guys, the desk had just been cleaned!
The white "laboratory" is used for plating, engraving, cleanup, layout and office. It frees up a lot of space in the "dirty" areas.

I'm pretty sure you took that as a compliment - if not - sweet shop! :)

Here's mine:

Bill, in your 3rd photo what kind of wheels are those on the grinder closest to the picture taker? Very nice shop BTW!

Those are expandable drums. They use them in lapidary work allot. They expand as they spin and hold the belt in place, and the belt just slides off when turned off. They are pretty nice. I have never used them for anything but wet sanding stone. An Ebay search turns up a ton of em.

Correct- expandable drum. The other wheels are felt, and sewn muslin.
There has been a CNC mill, and a lot of dust added since these pictures were taken!

So after looking at everyone's shops I feel so under privileged:( The total space I have to work in is about 8'X10', but it is not all in one place half of the space is out in the garage and the other half is in the basement storage area. I can't complain though, because I do have a place to work even if it is small:D

Dang, some nice shops here. I've got a 30x50' space filled with stuff and too messy to show it off. Really wish I had someone around that liked to organize and clean. Can never find any empty bench area to work on. Am I the only one with a shop like that?

Thanks for sharing guys. I love looking at peoples work spaces. I'd post my "shop" but it is not dedicated to Knives, so I will leave it out.

This sounds like my garage. Takes ten minutes to get ready to do a 5 minute job.

Arcadia and Carl. The pics of my shop aren't typical. Usually if you just went out at any random time to take a photo it would so disgrace the good people here on blade forum that they would probably revoke my membership. Still like to see the pics!

I've been out of the game for a while for several reasons. Among them, I moved the family for a school district and setting up the new shop lagged in the priority list. However, I'm getting there. Went from a 2-car garage (shop) to a single, but it's kind of the same because I moved the wood working tools and a bunch of other stuff to a shed. Pics are old shop, new shop, new shop after some lights and power and stuff. Not everything is in it's final resting place and I added a safe tonight, I'm sure it will change some more.

Well I only have photos handy of this one room.

There's also a "grinder" room (on the other side of the window on the left) where some of the other stuff is, like ironworker, forge stuff, Foredoms, TIG etc.
Plus, another room where the noisy stuff lives---air compressor, tumblers etc.

Everything's pretty tightly packed in each room.

Love the OP's shop. Very inviting.

Good looking shop Blacksmithdog.

Did you build or purchase the side draft coke forge? The reason I ask, it looks exactly like one that used to set in my shop here in S/E Ohio.

Thanks for sharing the pics, Fred

I just made that hood about a month ago. I got a dimensioned sketch from a friend of mine, Peter Ross, and just modified it to fit my forge table.

I really like the side draft coke forges. It took some time to get used to starting the fire, I choked myself a few times. But once I got the hang of it, it was great.

Looks like a real productive work space.

Regards, Fred

All I have are some shots cobbled together from my out of date shop tour at my site- things have been added and a couple things removed. The pic with Bob on the wall is of the gravity tank for my hybrid waste oil/propane blown upright forge, the I-beam press is still not finished but now sports an oil reservoir made of a stainless german beer keg, the mill and hammer are much more used and surrounded by implements now. I got a MIG welder recently in addition to my AC stick welder, and the last two pics show my coal forge set up for use, then with an electric fan added and supporting my gas tempering oven.

Anyway, enjoy the clutter!
