Let's see your 81 stockman.

The Large CASE Amber Bone is something of a bargain too:thumbup: But I find it too much for trouser pockets, OK for topcoats though.

Were there no Stag Abilenes???

Thanks, Will

Ive only see 2 in stag. I wonder where the others are hiding. ;) Whoever they are they have some rarely photographed birds in the collection.

I haven't seen any stag #81's in a while. It makes me prize mine even more!
Here are a couple extra pics.

And the shield looks good on yours, will be absent on future runs.

Mine is small. I tend to buy and sell to see what I like.

Lunch would be great. I'm working nights for 2 weeks straight and going on vacation for a week after that. Maybe meet up mid October?

I'm in Sherwood Forrest. Got 5 inches in the house. Better than many, but enough to gut 2 foot high, pull cabinets....etc. my house is trashed. Got one room done though.... basically an apartment till the rest can get done.

Man I still can't believe Sherwood flooded. Sherwood! My wife's old boss live there. They are living in their gutted house. I couldn't imagine. I wish I could help them.

Mid or late October sounds good. I'm working alot of OT and on the house alot until then. Then visitors coming in and hopefully moving in.

If I am part of a sfo, I want the abilene stockman blade choices. Two blades does not a stockman make Haha.

Ditto. I have a 6375 large stockman in amber bone and it's actually one of my favorite pocket knives, including GEC's. It's a very stout and sturdy knife and is my go-to work knife when I know I'll be doing a lot of heavier work with my knife that day. I had an 81 in blackwood and liked it a lot, but it's not as heavily built as the 6375 Case (blades are thicker, liners are sturdier, etc). For hard work I always ended up carrying the Case because it's just beefier.

I had an 81 at one time. It was a nice knife, but when I compared it to my 6375.... I ended up selling the 81. They aren't always perfect, but a good one is just a great knife. I'd love to get an old red bone one from the 60s.

The 6375 would be a nice knife. I have the medium version (3 5/8"). 4.25 is just a shade too large I think. And the only choice of scales I can find is amber bone. Which isn't bad but I find it kind of plain.

But, to be perfectly honest, I just want the gec version.

I may have to get the 6375 to toy with though.

I think you would really like a 6375, but it is noticeable in the pocket vs other stockmans. There's another cv steel one called amber bone rancher, it's saw cut bone with no shield and looks really nice, but may be tougher to find, I had to search around for mine. I think the GEC is the most perfectly proportioned stockman ever, is still 4" like most stockmans but a lot more broad in the handle and blades, it just looks and feels so right.

Ahh yes. Found it. Also ran across yellow synthetic large with cv. Kinda like that one. Also had a sowbelly stockman in chestnut jigged bone once. Prolly shoulda kept that one.

Look for an older chestnut version.... or search for an even older one. You might also want to check the 47 pattern.

47 isn't my favorite. I don't care for rhe rounded ends. I prefer the squared ends.

Might look around for older ones this weekend. Or just try to be patient and seek an 81. Haha. Need to just keep using my 2012 BF. Its staring to get a little color on the clip blade finally.

The red one at far right is a Case Lge Stockman it started life as amber bone.
I'm kicking myself for not getting the stone moss 81 -don't know why but at the time I went for the copperhead.
Thats a lovely stag 81-just right.

I don't know the ins and outs of everyone's business model, but from what I've read on the forums GEC seems to want to limit the number of SFO's they run. I guess the only way to get it done would be to impress on GEC the amount of interest in another run of 81's or get a distributor to get an SFO done.
