Let's see your 81 stockman.

How is talk about one against the rules but actually doing one (the bf knives) isn't? Isn't this just another BF knife basically?

Let's keep this going - we should aim for about 50% of each thread dedicated to discussion of what is or isn't against the forum rules , and this thread has been a bit lacking.

Yeah Chunk, it's a quintessential Stockman. I'd keep the blade configurations as-is if I was GEC.

I might would like to see a slightly different clip blade..... Not a California Clip, but something in between.... definitely swedged.

As far as Stag? I honestly have such a hard time finding a good stag knife, I've given up on stag. I just don't care for the extreme asymmetrical handles you have to get with stag.

It's kind of promoting something "for profit".... though I doubt that was the intent. It does cross the line and what would stop a non-paying knife seller from doing this here?

Exactly. My intention wasn't to make money off of this, but there are paying vendors on this forum, so it could be seen as unfair and discourage vendor memberships.

The BF knife has prior approval.

Not really.

The Traditional Forum knife project is the only special order project which is allowed to take to take place in the traditional discussion forum. It has the approval of the forum owner. And it takes a lot to get that approval.

The BF knife is a huge amount of work to set up and run. Every year the project has to be approved by the forum owner before the project even begins to be talked about. Every year someone has to agree to take on the financial liabilities associated with it. That's part of the reason the site owner has to approve whoever is running the show. He has to know that the whole thing has proper coverage. Spark does not want anyone coming back at him saying that money is owed or that a lawsuit is in the works.

If the operation goes South, the organizers are left holding the bag for whatever amount of money is involved. This is not a minor thing. The last couple of projects each involved some 300 knives. 300 knives at 100 apiece is $30,000. Not many folks have the finances and expertise to take on and manage such a risk. Certainly neither Gary nor I do. We stand on the sidelines and cheer on the fine folks who do.

So, no. This was not the same as a forum knife project.

A very big positive from this thread is the revealing of such interest in and appreciation for this particular model. I would not be surprised if GEC were to take it into consideration....patience comrades, patience! ;):D

This is an #82 in Osage that I bought on these forums recently that I love to bits. It reminds me of why I started collecting traditional knives - functionality! This knife is built for use. I like the absence of half stops and my favourite main blade, the Turkish clip.

Now if only GEC would do a run of this exact pattern but slightly smaller at 3.5" with a punch or a bottle opener as a third or even fourth blade - my Grail knife.

I've enjoyed looking at all the beautiful examples of square-bolstered 81s in this thread!:thumbup:
But when it comes to actually carrying a stockman, I'd choose a round-bolstered, slender clip, low-profile 82 like Camillus's over an 81 in a heartbeat.

I think that the 82 falls into a hole in my needs. If I need a heavy user I'd choose the 81 over the 82 every time. If I'm looking for an easy carry I'd pick a 66 over the 82. It seems like a compromise that puts it out of contention for any need I'd have. Of course, I'm kind of a weirdo when it comes to what I carry.

That might be so, but as a knife collector, "needs" should only be brought up when justifying a purchase to your spouse. ;)

I get what you're saying though. In stockman form, is probably prefer the 81 and 66 too.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.
It just goes to show how much work and dedication it takes to get a SFO done, so the BF knife is truly something special!

I personally would love to see a run of the #81s coming out sometime next year, but there are only so
Many days in the year. I've carried Case's large stockman and a big 'ol Schrade for a while, but the #81 is my favorite. I would love to try a #82, but when push comes to shove the look of the #81 is classic stockman.

I think a ton of people want to see another run on them, Mr Twoshoes.

Just take a look at the past few pages of the trade forum, and look at people's signatures. It even has me considering overpaying for an ugly Mardi Gras handled one that's for sale!

Late to the thread, but I'd like to add my "voice" to those that would like to see another run of these. I have one example & regret not getting another, especially an example in osage orange. Would be jazzed to see the next run in bloodwood, chestnut, and/or yellow delrin.

It would be interesting to see GEC put delrin on their regular runs. It's popular on Queen and Case knives, so I don't see why not.
