Lets see your CPK in Leather!

No, I spend hours scouring various suppliers looking for new mounting solutions. When I find one that looks promising I order a couple and do some testing. Rarely I am happy with one, but when I am I order more to have supply on hand for my customers.

The market is flooded with cheap junk that I can't recommend, so I have a literal box full of clips, mounts and widgets that will never see a sheath. I got a similar one to these at the same time and it is thick bent soft steel with a painted finish, sold for about $2 less.. garbage.

These clips are hardened 420HC, and advertise the black as TiN coating. The hardware is custom and rebated into the clip so they are not a drag point when in use. I try to buy American whenever I can but these are made in China, but I consider them made to high-end American standards.
I think I've seen some of the crappy knock off versions of them. Good to know

Knowing Chinese goods, probably the same exact thing sold under a different brand, but they could be out there made to lesser specs as well, never can tell without testing. I'm sure at some point they will be fairly common, but I will be happy to take credit for their growth in popularity :D

Outside of the $25 mummert clips, what can you recommend? I've been looking for simple clips that don't eat your pants but it's looking like dcc.

I'd be curious to find some decent screws too. I got some dcc style clips to test with but the hardware is too short :( Wished they made regular steel chicago screws like they make some of the brass ones (flat with a matte finish much like your beloved pivots).

The DCC's are great I just wish he'd switch to 1" hole spacing across the board. I can still make 7/8" work on a 1" mount but it'd make life easier. The Gear Clips are excellent and my favorite as well as most popular. They bite a little aggressive so I have started modifying them on request. Just insert a needle nose plier in under the locking tab and you can bend it up a bit.

There are not a lot of options on the market well suited for knives. Most clips are 1" or wider and geared toward holsters

As for my black Chicago screws I buy the steel backs (female) in bulk from KnifeKits.com and then I buy my screws from McMaster-Carr. I probably have 10-12 different screw lengths and head types for various mounts and needs. Truss Head screws are preferred but low profile pan or fillister head screws are handy for certain applications. Ultimately I find buying the base separate from the screw gives me the most versatility and control over the application.

You are a wizard my friend, thank you for the excellent info :) That's a great tip about mating your own screw combos. I see a lot of pocket sheaths with the centered clip but I'm definitely looking to mount them on the side and hadn't overly considered the actual width of the clip altering the pattern/retention... this helps!

TechSew is the manufacturer for Cowboy, which has slight tweaks, but I have two of them and have been running one since 2008. They are rock solid but if you need any pointers or advice hit me up. Great choice!!
thank you, Chad! I was just thinking today about hitting you up for advice when the time comes  🙌

Are you selling these?

Are you selling these?

Yes, with sheath orders and existing customers. I don't stock enough to get good price breaks or be a dealer. These Omni Clips work with 1" on center mounting points, but are best suited with 1.5" or even 2" spacing, still working out the best way to implement them.

One of my oldest CPK sheaths. Holding up very well.

And the tool of choice to chase the abundant white-tailed mule deer from our yard. The wife doesn't like it when I let the puppies do it (the female deer always come with bigger bucks behind them, these days).

messed around for a couple minutes with the machine last night, made some stitches (not well) and I feel like the learning curve might be short but steep. Hopefully not as painful as learning to use a belt grinder.

there are a number of folks out there who've put in requests for sheaths, and I feel really bad about the amount of time that's passed- I appreciate your patience- but things are about to get started. Don't know how long it'll take me to be proficient enough with this thing to deliver the quality I always try to achieve. Hopefully not too long. Also, there's a world of needles and thread that I still have to dive deeper into. I have enough here to learn with, but I'm looking around for the supplies that I think will be best for the sheaths I want to make.

it's pretty exciting times, really. The machine is just part of it- I had to build a leather studio in my garage, (not that kind of 'studio' you pervert) and after many years of imagining it the final pieces came together over last weekend- just before the machine surprisingly showed up, (on the rainiest day of the year so far). It's a small room with lots of counter space- laying out a batch of sheaths on a hide is just about impossible to do if there's no place to do it. Similarly, it's hard to store inventory if there's nowhere to store it...
