Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

The Schrade Sharpfinger are also great utility knives...

It took quite some time to get these two oldies. As they don´t show off so frequently on german ebay...
Nice haul there. I grabbed one at an estate sale last year. It is amazing how a Sharp Finger rests in the hand. I do not hunt, but I imagine it does a bang up job in that role.

I gave a good regrind for my hudson bay and today a bit of patina. Previously made swedge for the knife too.

I found these in an antique store yesterday. Hand-made in Lansing MI, according to the vendor. Made some time ago, I would guess, because the metal spacers are proud from the wood and bone.

The handle on the ball-peen looks like a piece of sledgehammer handle. Unfortunately they all need sheathes.

screened porch screened porch ^ That ball end is pretty dang cool. I’ve never seen anything like that before. Any idea on what the actual need for that was on a knife?
Thanks.
It reminds me a little of the ball on a Puma fish-knife/bludgeon/scale. I wouldn't dare to reverse my grip and swing the ball at anything, but maybe as an augment to a hammer-fist it wouldn't be too dangerous.
Or maybe the maker was a surrealist.

Jsega51 Jsega51 Burt makes a great knife. I've been fortunate to have owned quite a few knives from him over the years. Burt's leather is superb.

Thanks Jerry, it’s a nice one for sure. I need to get a hand forged knife from him now. This is a somewhat compact knife at 7-3/4” and found that I could only get a good 3.5 finger grip, half of my pinky rode right where the butt comes down to a point. I did a little work with the sander, smoothed it out by hand, blended the scales back in, polished everything up and then re-blued the tang. It’s nice and comfortable for me to get a full grip on now that the butt is more contoured. Can’t even tell I messed with it either lol.

I agree that the sheath is really well made. Nice and stiff with a tight retention. It’ll take some breaking in but I’m up for the challenge!

Just finished making this little utility blade out of scrap / junk.

I dug through my bucket-o-stuff and found everything I needed.
1 - a scrap piece of a broken 1950's Craftsman handsaw blade.

2 - a scrap of mystery hardwood

3 - a clipping of thick aluminum wire.
That's not the actual thickness of the aluminum wire, I hammer drew it to the diameter I needed then peened it in place.

Jake, a forged knife from Burt is special. The laminated steel blades are very practical for a user, but his damascus hunters are really neat. A bit longer handle and he would lengthen the handle if you liked. The gent's Bowie is a good one too.
