My biggest real gaucho knife: 8.25" blade. Made for a mechanical engineer on a sugar plantation in Brasil by a gaucho working the associated cattle ranch, ca 1960.

This Russell GR is not far off from the JuCa, I've noticed. I made walnut pocket/drawer sheathes for some of these for Christmas long ago, but I seem not to have kept any sheathes for myself.

Seems to be. It doesn't seem as brittle perhaps.

Speaking of handles, the hard part for me is summoning the will to undergo the drudgery of sawing the slabs.

That's annoying when a device replaces a perfectly good word with one it likes better, without bothering to ask.

Think of Stan Shaw Jer, he still hacksaws all his own steel at 93! He told me, in his workshop at home he positions himself with his back against a tall chest of drawers, to get extra purchase, and reckons he goes through it like a hot knife through butter! It's very annoying Jer, the substitutions are often completely nonsensical
