Any idea the years of this one?Ulster Scout Knives are a favorite, and this one remains a safe Queen!! As near-MIB as it gets!!! The box is more worn than the knife!!View attachment 2531278View attachment 2531280

I suspect you are close!! It has the pre-war type can opener, which may place it a little earlier; but I've heard the opinion that those can openers lingered in production sometimes!!Any idea the years of this one?
Would "1940's to 1950's" be in the ballpark?
I read somewhere online (so it gotta be correct, right? It has the pre-war type can opener,
Ulsters are pretty ubiquitous - there must be someone who can answer some of your queries!!!Shame there isn't an Ulster tang stamp chart ... at least I can find one.
Any idea the years that Shield was used on BSA knives?
That might help narrow the date range.
I forget when BSA went to the round shield. I think it was the mid 60's? maybe mid-late 50's?
Charlie, that one’s pretty special right there?Ulster Scout Knives are a favorite, and this one remains a safe Queen!! As near-MIB as it gets!!! The box is more worn than the knife!!View attachment 2531278View attachment 2531280

The answer would be 1923 to 1940 for the BSA knife with the heraldic shield.....1963-85 had a round shield.Ulsters are pretty ubiquitous - there must be someone who can answer some of your queries!!!
Anyone?
Thank you, Arathol!!!The answer would be 1923 to 1940 for the BSA knife with the heraldic shield.....1963-85 had a round shield.

Who mentioned Remington?Except for Remington, right?
Only the "Official" BSA scout knives made by whoever had the "exclusive" BSA contract were subject to BSA's shield requirement.Except for Remington, right?
The original Remington factory made a few different BSA knives, folding and fixed blade, between the early 1920s and 1939 when everything was sold to PAL. The RS3333, BSA#1496, is the ubiquitous Remington BSA pattern.
Remington also used an acorn shield......and Ulster also used a round shield....Yep, that's all I was seeking to clarify. Ulster used the heraldic shield but Remington used a round shield.
