Let's see your Shadetree

Does anyone have a picture of oreo, black, and sapphire Shadetree in the same shot? I have a black shadetree and love the pattern and in pictures all three can look so similar. Been thinking I'd like my next blade to have sapphire shadetree :D

I don't have a sapphire, but I can tell you that black is the same as oreo. It's just been called differently be folks at times.

Yeah, I can't tell any difference between anything that has been called black vs Oreo. Sapphire is distinctly different and one of my favorites burlap colors. Photos in this thread give you a pretty good visual at what you want. If I still had a black burlap in my set I'd help you out - now I know what my next knife should be handled with lol

I have pics of all three
Just not in the same pic
Sapphire

Oreo

Black in tuxedo config

One of the main differences in Oreo and black is
Oreo is made from burlap and as very destinct theads running through

Here's another Oreo
On the bottom

That bottom one isn't shadetree, it's just standard black micarta. (just to clarify, this is in regards to the scandi EDC in tuxedo in VANCE's first response, not the picture with the 3 knives together. That one is black/oreo)

Black Shadetree = Oreo Shadetree
I have several different black micartas, some that have more of a canvas sized thread and some that are more linen like. But they are distinct from Shadetree burlap.

Here's a thread that goes into OCD land discussing it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1219854-Please-ID-scales-in-this-photo

My 1,000th Post!

I knew for a while that I wanted my 1,000th post to be in this thread. Shadetree burlaps are my favorite handle material. Burlaps have remained my primary Fiddleback theme since my first Friday purchase of a Coffeebag burlap Sneaky Pete back in 2013. I don’t foresee that focus changing much going forward. My collection today looks very different than it was a year ago. After some selling, trading, and buying, the color mix of my Shadetree “rainbow” has changed.

Here is my complete collection of burlap handled knives. The majority of these are Fiddlebacks. There are three included here from others makers who would accept custom orders for knives with Shadetree handle colors that I wanted to try when they were new or otherwise unavailable from Fiddleback.

Top row L to R: Camp Knife, Camp Nessie, Bushcrafter, Gaucho, Leuku, Sneaky Pete, Jarrett Fleming “Bird & Trout”, Arete, Recluse, Bushcrafter Jr., and Patch.

Bottom row L to R: Woodsman, Duke, Terrasaur, Bushfinger, Bushcrafter, T.M. Hunt “Yuma”, Monarch, T.M. Hunt “Magua”, Bushcrafter Jr., Hiking Buddy, and Hiking Buddy.

Here is my Fiddleback “Black Bolster Gang” subset. I never set out to collect the bolstered ones, but they definitely add an attractive contrast especially with the brighter colored burlaps.

About a year ago in this thread, I posted a group shot that I called “Watermelon Knife Block.” That picture drew a lot of positive comments, so I decided to do a “2015 Edition” with the new mix of colors. If you like Shadetree burlaps, I’ll bet that you can’t look at these pictures just once.

Here the new edition with just Fiddlebacks:

Here is the version with my complete Shadetree collection:

In closing, I want to thank Andy & Ken for making fabulous knives that just keep getting better and better. More important than that, they have established a wonderful community here that has led to many great friendships for me that were started through common interests in Fiddleback knives. I look forward to making many more friends here in my next 1,000 posts while I am on the hunt for some new Shadetree burlap colors to add to my rainbow.

Wishing you all the best!

Phil

Congrats on 1,000! That is quite the collection. I think my favorite Shadetree is the sapphire, followed closely by the plum.

Stellar collection Phil! Thanks for sharing. I think the Electric plum needs to be in the future for me someway somehow. I traded my only black and burgundy away but I really like that material as well. Congrats on a thousand great posts too.

Outstanding Phil. Congrats on your 1000th post. That's quite an achievement considering how much thought and effort you put in to your posts. You always have great insight and articulate it well, I look forward to seeing your next thousand posts.

That is a beautiful collection. Congrats buddy.

Congratulations on the 1000th post Phil! That is quite the rainbow connection, I mean collection of Shadetree you have put together. I have to say my favorite is the top dog, the bolstered electric orange camp knife. Excellent post for your 1000th! Thanks for sharing and for all the great posts you have put on the forum.

Hey Phil. Hope all is well. That yellow watermelon never stood a chance!

I have to say, that Magua profile looks like a winner. How do you like it so far?

Otherwise, I'm lovin' your Camp Nessie and Plum Bushfinger.

Take care,
Sergio

Congrats on 1000 posts Phil! Very nice update on the Shadetree rainbow. Quite the amazing collection.

I think you know which one is my favorite. Which one is yours Phil?

Phil, congratulations on both collections posts/knives. That is a nice mix of burlaps. Have you come to find a favorite among them yet?

Nice knives! Beautiful colors. Never seen a yellow watermelon but it is fitting. Round here, watermelons are red...

That is a beautiful tangerine Bushcrafter.

Congrats on your 1,000 post. Also what you said about this community is right on. Pics are outstanding, glad to see the watermelon is back. Great collection - of knives and shadetree.

Wow Phil, stunning collection of Shadetree!!! I love all the color you have there.

The only shade tree I have on hand at the moment is the BC Jr in Evergreen that I love very much

Lisa is a good wife and she always supports me in my work, and always wants of every knife I've designed. I make sure she has higher quality knives, like her blue Bushboot that she edc's, a blue Magua made by Todd Hunt, even a Blue Spartan Blades Nymph...and a couple of others... but even still she wants also the ones that I have designed. So I am going to surprise her. The last three designs I have done all have grivory handles...it's a loooong story, But I wanted micarta initially. I found a guy who makes micarta handles scales for the first two models alreay. So I ordered some Shadetree Navy, the only blue they had at the time, and had it sent to him and had him make a set in her favorite color combo, blue and yellow. They will be here in a few days.
