Lets talk GEC!

Has anyone bought the new GEC USS TEXAS Battleship #48 Damascus Knife? Mine just arrived today. Crudy pictures but cloudy outside. Best I could do:

Thanks for posting the pix. I was actually just about to ask if anybody had one. :D

Beautiful looking knife. That's a keeper for sure.

wow, that dark red soup bone does look really good! Getting a little bummed that I missed out on these, somehow by the time I heard about them I think they were already all spoken for. I need to pay better attention :) Had trouble picturing what the dark red soup bone would look like...guess the answer is awesomeness.

Are there wood handles coming too, I thought it was just the soup bones?

Yes, they are doing a very small run of rosewood.

that's a really nice knife, will it be used? Looks like it is deliberately made to be a shelf queen ('straight to the poolroom'), but I would be curious to see how that damascus actually cuts.

I will not use this knife. It will be put up along with a lot of other knives. I did notice one dealer had sold 2 of these with the wharncliffe blade from the engine room and they went for around 550.00 each.
Mine was considerably lower.

Sounds like you got a good deal then. I thought they were going to be just slightly lower than that.

Personally, I don't have anything against using a knife at that price point, but something like these are more what I would consider show pieces. Pretty neat if you ask me... I like that the blade and handle have been repurposed. I've never really been a fan of pattern welded steel, but using it would completely obliterate the pattern and if I had one, it would only be looked at and admired periodically.

Nice score and thanks for sharing!

Anybody know anything about the Northwoods #54? Looks like a barehead wharncliffe, but I could be dead wrong.... I thought the #54 pattern was an equal end.... Derrick of knivesshipfree, if you look at this ever, could you update us? That green camel bone looks like a winner, along with another saber ground wharnie!

I hope this is an appropriate thread to post this in..... This particular knife is made by GEC and I couldn't find a dedicated Northwoods thread.

They also make mention of a Northwoods 44. I am curious to know what that's going to be.

The GEC #54 is a 4 1/8" closed equal end pattern that has half stops. GEC has made them with different blade combinations and blades at 1 or both ends before. Looks like the Northwoods version will be a barehead jack with at least the wharncliffe blade being offered. I don't think I've ever seen a bareheaded knife with blades at both ends before. I'd imagine the big moose having caps and blades at both ends. The original ones had a clip and spear blade. If GEC is coming out with their own big jack then they could have the same blades but at the same end, just like their originals too.

Anybody have an info on this knife to be made? New one?

If I had to guess (Which I am) I'd say the 54 is a Presidential, and the 44 is probably a the Madison Barlow.

I emailed KSF a while ago when I saw they had an SFO for some 99's and Tyler said they have IRJs in the pipeline, along with more Fremonts and Madison Barlows.

I saw GEC has this pic up on their website. Does anyone have any more info on them? Release date? Which stores will have them? Etc?
