Lets talk GEC!

They probably won't do a Northfield 85 unless it is an SFO for Mike, CK unofficially owns that pattern. That being said I will never say what GEC is going to do with any level of certainty.
Charlie Campagna unofficially owned the TC Barlow, but that is over now with this last run of TC’s and which were distributed to all the dealers. So, I would assume all unofficial agreements like the Northfield 85’s and the NF Barlows are over. GEC may decide to release them to all dealers now.

I was able to get doubles of the whole run

Yeah, that's why there is that line about not having certainty. My guess is that they are doing Mike one last solid like they did Charlie before taking over,(GEC secrecy) but purely speculation on my part.

Here's a couple pics, I received the TC Smooth Autumn Bone and Rough Sawn Osage Wood Barlow with help from a great member A akaMatt . I created Good Feedback in the Good Bad and Ugly thread for more information. Matt lives close to me and after we met today we did a one for one trade and he sold me another TC Barlow at a fair price. Getting a GEC knife is crazy and very stressful today, I was giving up but Matt gave me hope. Thank you very much Matt you really made my day and more.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you as well, Frank! I think it’s safe to say we both walked away happy with our new knives!

Just to add on to Frank’s comments, we both found we had a perfect opportunity for a trade the other day, and then I was surprised to discover we lived just a few stones throws away from each other. That made it super easy to meet up, talk knives for a few, look at what we each had, and make our trade. I’m glad we both walked away happy. Here is what I received in return!

I am not sure I could forgive you for letting your African blackwood 77 barlow go my friend
It was a very pretty knife, just something I didn't like to carry. Probably the spear blade, I don't get along with spear blades that well. Pretty much all my knives that I carry a lot have straight edges or clip points. About the only exception to that is my #73 with the drop point, but it's a very slim and pointy drop point.

The Great Eight turned into the Fine Nine...
I forgot about the Bull Nose that lives in the kitchen.
Obviously I prefer the #56 and #66 patterns. :cool::thumbsup:

That's a great set, John. I've been trying to get my hands on a 56 or 66. I have had a couple of different Northwoods Fayette Jacks, which were made on the 56 frame, but I didn't like the Wharncliffe blade enough to keep them. I also had a 56 with the clip, but it had to go to for financial reasons at the time. It is hard to find a single blade 56 (even harder for a 55), and the two-blade (or tool) 66s are pretty uncommon as well (I don't think I'd enjoy the calf roper with that protruding sheepsfoot). I do like the swaying lines and ergonomics, though. Best of all, though are your ebonies. That 93 and 76 are dreamy.

I have a question regarding walk and talk on a brand new TC barlow from the 2021 run.

The action from half stop to “open” is sluggish and doesn’t snap with authority.

However it snaps just fine back to half stop and from half stop to closed. I did notice black oil come out backspring after a few cycles.

Would you assume that with a good joint flushing that action to open position would improve? Thanks

My autumn bone barlow is the opposite. It is a bit sluggish when closing.

It also has a slightly off-center blade. I was wondering if there is any DIY fix for this?

I had a similar issue on my #15 boys knife. It was sluggish from half stop to closed. I did flush it with oil and that improved the action noticeably, but it is still slightly sluggish. It could just be a function of how tight the pivot pin is, and may loosen up over time. It could also be an aspect of spring tension, in which case it is probably going to be as good as you can get it through flushing it.

I find that the TC and Boys knife that I have from this run are both a bit on the tight side. I notice (when I get knives like this) that they usually work in after a little carrying & exercising, and adding a couple drops of oil to the pivot. Neither knife I received from this run exhibited any grittiness in the action.

Also - on some of the more tightly put-together ones, I find that where I hold the knife can affect the closing if I'm holding the knife anywhere near the bolster. Seems like my grip can cause the liners to act like the brakes on a bicycle and actually stop the blade...then let it go when I ease my grip. That also seems to get better with use though.

Right now, my Boys knife seems to have worked itself in with only a couple days in the watch pocket and a couple drops of oil in the ol' joints. The TC seems a bit more reluctant and got a couple shots of Ballistol (aerosol) into the blade well to flush out any gunk. Seems to have helped some. It's the one in my pocket now. :D

That's a great set, John.
Thank you, Joshua. :)

I've been trying to get my hands on a 56 or 66.
They are getting tough to find, that for sure.
I hunted for the #55 for a long time before a member kindly sold me his at a very good price. I'm eternally grateful to him. My first grail knife.
The #66 was funny. I bought one a while ago and foolishly let it go. The member that bought it then had two. Some time later he offered to sell me his original one. So he has mine and i have his now. Pretty cool when you think about it.

Love the recovered 76!!
Thank you, Easy. :)
It was my only GEC purchase from a brick and mortar store. My sons found a knife store and then helped me pick that one out. It originally came with acrylic handles and I felt it needed something more in keeping with how the knife felt to me. I had Glenn recover it in Ebony and then added the Sword Shield to remind me of my boys. It's pretty priceless to me and my most prized knife in my collection.

Probably the spear blade, I don't get along with spear blades that well.

I recently sort of came full circle regarding spear blades when it comes to knives like the # 77 , #15 , Barlow's etc.
From my first Victorinox which I loved to then trying other blades types because the spear now sort of looked boring , to back to the spear.
A spear and a straight edge of course ( lambsfoot ) and I am good to go.

Anything bigger than the # 77 is probably a different story ... I'll say drop point for bigger knives ?
I do find the clip blade very pleasing aesthetically but not sure how much more practical it would be for my uses compared to the spear or drop point.

Beautiful collection you have my friend, I am waiting for my 15 cocobolo to arrive to post my 5 GEC's :)
