Lets talk GEC!

draggat - nice pictures and knife, different but I like it. The 63 looks like the Schrade Fishtail 150 & 151.

If I'm not mistaken, and that DOES happen, the Case version was the 050 and 051. Case also made them with and without a guard.

I always enjoy looking at old catalogues, first-class reference works

Daydream time: GEC release their interpretation of that No. 742 please! Shadow Pen with Clip/Coping or a Tip bolstered version with the same or other blades:thumbup: Happy days:D

Need some help with this one. It will take GEC collectors that have been involved since the git-go. GEC B-day knives is the subject.

I have two boys that I'm trying to figure out what knives were being produced during their births. First the easier of the two 9-3-10. From looking at the production pages, and then going back to the pattern pages, it looks like on Sept 1st the "Cattle Rancher" was released, as well as the Yellow Rose "Cattle Baron". Then on Sept 8th the 48 slim dog leg in Antique Walnut bone was released. Problem is, there were 6 companies that ordered SFO's in the 53/54 pattern, and GEC does not i.d. the release date of these. Second, there were 4 companies with SFO's for the 48s that release dates are not i.d. on GEC's website. It seems like SFO's are run first, then the GEC products, is this historically correct? If so, I'd guess one of the 48 SFO's was being made. Any help would be appreciated.

The hard one-Since release dates are not available on GEC's website, I'll have to rely on the institutional knowledge of this community. 11-3-10.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Josh

I have been interested in a few production dates since the beginning. I have noticed that serialized knives have a different date listed on the COA as to the date listed on the site. It is usually a day or two before the sites listed date. Great eastern is kind of known for having oddities in the production numbers and I am sure it goes for dating system as well.

I hope someone with more knowledge chimes in. One name that comes to mind is Trand, or 2Dead. He tends to answer most of GEC questions in his post. I know there are others who may know this as well.

Release dates are available on GEC's website. Go to Collect by Pattern and each knife released has the Release Date for that handle option of that pattern. I make no claims to the accuracy of these dates, but these are GEC's Published Dates.

Well, I wish I could be more help. It does seem that the SFOs get run first and then GEC's versions. Also, sometimes GEC runs the versions they plan and have a few extras (handle materials from previous runs) and sometimes make a handful of those. They are usually not serialized.

Late 2010 is when I had just started getting into GEC so I don't really have the knowledge to help too much. My first ever GEC was ordered on 9/1/10 but it was a 440C EO #25 (made 3/22/10) from existing inventory from KSF. While I usually get the unserialized versions, I can confirm that the COA lists 9/8/10 for the #48 Antique Walnut as that's one of my serialized knives (bought 9/22/11). 9/3/10, being a Friday, maybe they were working on unserialized versions?

For Thursday 11/3/10, you can see a #89 Smooth Cut Burnt Stag on 11/2. The next one, looks like Genuine Stag, the png doesn't show up. The blurry number looks different than 11/2 though. GEC changed their website a couple years ago, it used to be you could browse their picture index but now its protected. Maybe someone has one of these to share?

Trand the boy born in 2010 was born on Sept 3. The boy born in 2007 was on Nov 3rd. Your effort is much appreciated, I almost hate to bring it up.

The younger boy (2010), according to GEC's website falls right between the end of the 53 run and just before the 48 run, and your COA proves that the Antique Walnut was released on the 8th. The investigation continues......Thanks to all.

I was buying GEC knives as they were released back in those days. I can tell you what I ordered around the Nov. 3 , 2007 date. On Nov. 3, I ordered #53 Cuban - Northfield in "Dead skunk" - "Coppertone" - "Cat's cradle", and the Tidioute version in bacote wood(I would assume these must have been made before Nov. 3). On Nov. 10 , I ordered the #53 Cuban - Tidioute version in Chocolate jigged bone. On Nov. 14, I ordered #73EC - in "Smokey pearl" and "Blue oyster". I hope this is some help to you.

Just took this shot of the beautiful WJ tonight.

That sure is a beauty! I really wish I'd gotten one of these in the smooth autumn gold. Of all the recent autumn gold knives, the Washington Jacks look the best because of the even coloring, IMO. Great pic!

Correct you are rma100, I found the Case fishtail 051 was made before 1915. I didn't realize this pattern was so old. Thanks :D
