Lets talk GEC!

They didn't use that name, but they did a scratted bone back in 2007 on both the #53 Stockman and the #73 Scout.
They called it chocolate jigged bone. (3rd from the left)

Nice! That’s one I’ve never seen before.

I must be in the minority, but I just don’t get the fascination with having a caplifter on a knife. I guess I can’t remember the last time I was stranded with a just a bottle and a knife. Probably about the same time I last had just a full head of messy hair and a knife! :D

That's interesting, stranded with just what's in your pockets? Yes, I would want the cap lifter/screw driver vs 2 blades. I could do more to conserve my blade with the cap lifter than I could with just more blade.

On the other hand if you're just talking about drinking? I have 10 ways to open a beer that doesn't involve a pocket knife.:D:p:cool:;)

A caplifter can be a very useful tool (screwdriver, scraper, etc.) but I am kind of with you on this. I think the Beer Scout craze has certainly gone a long way towards immortalizing the tool/configuration and making it a desirable feature on a knife. Personally, I have a Radio Jack - I love the knife but I have never used the caplifter on it. I have, however, used the secondary pen or coping blade on several of my other knives.

Kind of bringing something from a few pages ago back up. I’m super jealous of the Texas series of knives. I think it’s awesome for people from there to have something like that. Especially because all the folks I know from Texas are really proud of their state.

Every time I see them I get to daydreaming about a California version. Maybe a 35 two bladed jack, or if there was some kind of “traditional gold rush era knife”. Either way I imagine it with bright orange bone covers and a poppy shield.

I’ve tried to draw a shield for it more times than I can say.

The one thing that I hope GEC avoids is what Case does on a much broader scale - make garish themed collections that really only appeal to collectors who will never use the knives.

Case slaps a “Father” etch on the bone and says “voila, Father’s Day knife”, or color it pink and stamp “Mother” on there... because you know how females only associate with pink things . GEC has never once given me pause to think they’d do such a hack job.

It’d never be what Case does anyway, because Case makes a million essentially identical trappers. I think GEC could pull it off, and I’d bet they’d do very well. I mean... watch those urban jacks fly off the shelves...

Imagine every pattern that comes out has 50-100 set aside for some classy state-based trim. It’d take a decade, but I’d bet it’d be a decade of buzz.

I imagine it would have to have a California clip blade. Not sure that would work on a 35, though.

I don’t really like the California clip shape, but I’d be super into it with the state knife idea. Maybe on something like a case medium jack frame.

Being texas born, ive been interested in getting one of those lone star sfo knives. Still being relatively new to gec, i hadnt seen much of these yellow rose knives. I think i might need to get me one.
