Lets talk GEC!

Maybe....but wasn't there some #23 Northwoods coming or am I missing something...

When they first released the production schedule there was a #23 pattern Northwoods listed, but I'm guessing it was delayed with the other #23s due to the materials issue Mike Latham mentioned somewhere on the forum (can't recall what thread).

anyone else feel like the bottle opener should be on the pile side? I can understand when a secondary blade is desirable in that location, but the bottle opener isn't going to see as much use as a blade I imagine. It sure is gorgeous though, competing nail pulls aside.
I would agree with you, however I have a brother-in-law who would find it amusing that his beer opener was also a knife.

Okay, I am going to call it now, before the polls close,... in my opinion, the new 85 Crown Lifter will be an all time classic to rival my beloved Scout and Beer Scout!

The cover choices, the soda bottle shield, the broad spear blade, and the placement of the blades, are all spot on perfect. And the 85 pattern works brilliantly with these design elements. Bill Howard is a knife making Maestro. Bravo!

I am very excited about this knife. It reminds me of when GEC surprised us with the Charred Oak Beer Scout. GEC is on a roll right now; creating so many incredible knives. They just keep coming with endless variety; something to suit everyone’s taste. We are fortunate to have this amazing company carrying on when so many others are gone forever. Enjoy it while you can.

Thank you for the kind comment M mcc850 You are fairly new to the Porch, but you have caught on faster than anyone I have seen. I can’t wait to see how your collection develops!

Your post has me extremely fired up about the 85s, and I think you are correct about rivaling the beer scouts. Those fat spears with the bullet end just make them look so classy, but more importantly friendly in the hand. You have been posting incredible knives lately btw.

To add on the lack of the EO notch keeps the lines of this wonderful frame intact. For those who prefer the notch it can be added but it can never be taken away. I'm enjoying a little Dixie stag while I wait for my micarta invoice.;)

As a frequent carrier of both a Radio and Beer Scout, the bottle opener is the primary reason I carry these knives when I do. I have more knives than I need to cut things with, but when the main objective is to have a knife that has the ability to open a bottle of refreshment I choose to pocket thisEB00CE03-6330-4956-BE88-0E115814CFB3.jpeg

These 85s....are calling me....I have no reservations on one gonna be hunting em  I'm feeling lucky!!!

Me too! I haven’t had any reserves for quite some time. Did well on the 74s, failed miserably on the 47s and 15s, so hoping my luck changes on these. I’m really liking the one 85 I have, adding a caplifter would make it push the beer scout out of my rotation for a while.

If you have an 85 coming and plan on keeping it as a collectible be aware that the majority of all prior runs had blade rap. A dent or notch on about the middle of the sharpened part of the knife if allowed to close normally. There's a lot of info about it in this forum. Personally I feel like this is a good thing as GEC is packing as much blade as possible, but for those that collect these it can be upsetting when it first arrives and you want to hear that bear trap snap closed and find dents in the blade. Maybe none will have it this time, I hope all have it because that would tell me GEC is continuing on business as usual and stuffing the blade well with as much fat spear as possible :). My user 85's sharpened out the blade rap notch with one simple sharpening. It's amazing to me that they can cut it that close.
