Lets talk GEC!

When one takes artificial time restraints away and sit to create something the you have a passion for. One can preform the most amazing things. That is the beauty of art, the beauty of whittling. Pick up a piece of wood and lose yourself for an hour or so each day, each week, what you can come up with. A part of me is super happy to be done with Christmas, for I have a few "acorns" that I have wanted to carve rolling around in my head.😉
How are you done with Christmas? Wait! Are you from the future?!!

I'm done carving and shipping Christmas ornaments for a while. It has been elves and Santas for about 4-5 months straight. I enjoy it, however I enjoy variety as well. For example I carved Eddie this week.

How long does something like this take? It’s very impressive.
Thanks OldSoul. The way i do it takes time, one hour a day, half an hour the next day. I work slowly, trying to remove the right chip at the right place. Some attempts end up in the wood stove but it's fun.

Hemlock green was one of the GEC idiosyncrasies that just worked and was (is) really cool. A neat little joke.

I would happily trade a dozen french kates and beard and sausage knives for that, but I guess that’s the risk of whimsy for you, it doesn’t always pay off.

Question for the experts:
I know the 06 pattern, and after seeing a 68 White Owl next to a Barlow, the 06 and 68 patterns are sub 3 inch Peanut size.

What other GEC patterns are two or three finger grip teeny tiny like that?

Jiki Jiki , that is freaking awesome, and incredible! I just about fell off the couch when I saw this! You have my greatest respect! One of my favorite bands from the good old days!:cool:

Dan, You inspired me 😉.

Great ! That's a variation I have to experiment. The ball in sliding cages as well but i've to find the right method.
I'm now working on a three borromean rings on a 2x2x2 inches cube. May be a bit too small !

Edit to add: the 62 is définitively a great whittler, isn't it ?

I bought this guy as a "flawed" knife, from the EDC pile. It has been a darn good little knife and I still enjoy carrying it. A cosmetically flawed knife from GEC or any other maker for that matter, if appropriately priced, can be some of the best knives in the drawer and quite useful.
