Lets talk GEC!

Thanks Bob & Jeff. I haven't tried out the Geppetto yet but yours is a looker!

I'm not too picky about what side the pen sits on, but calico bone sure sounds nice. I haven't seen them use it for a while.

That's a beauty, Steve. I only wish they had done the pens with markside nicks in front of the clip main, like on the later run of #85s.
Maybe they'll change it up and give us that on the next run. Markside pen and calico bone would be killer.

I agree with everything Jeff said:cool::thumbup:

Alright yous guys!

I'm referring to the GEC people. Take out your GEC slippie and your hankie. Notice you can easily buff-shine the nickel-silver bolsters at the pivot end where you have the blades, but not at the end caps. i noticed it with my 54 big jack (tidioute) and 23 two-blade pioneer (un-x-ld). What gives? The end caps aren't finished smooth as much as the pivot bolsters at the plant?

[yeah i know, this is a microscopic not pick.]

I have 2 Big Jacks and was just able to get both bolsters equally shiny. Just for fun I tried to shine up my other three 53/54 patterns and they also shined up great!

So I ended up buying the #38 John Chapman in Dusk Blue Jigged Bone (couldn't see paying 50% more for red just because someone beat me to it!)

Crap, I'm hooked. You people should be ashamed of pushing a drug like GEC on a poor unsuspecting farm boy like me.

You should talk Python! Your scout knife thread is gonna end up costing me some dough! :D

Don't feel bad - as soon as the Queen D2 comes available, it's probably going to cost me too. Well, it will if I have any money left over after buying all the GECs I've discovered I can't live without...

I just bought my first GEC in January (and shortly joined here to learn more) and it was like "Whoa!" This pocket knife is crazy good! Soon I had another, and another and...well, you get the point.

So you are not alone! I'm feeling relieved to not be particularly attracted to the 73s, so maybe my knife budget can recover a little. :)

The front page on the GEC blog hints at "black box brown jigged bone" for the 73s. Assuming this is based off the Winchester (Queen?) black box knives? Neat little touch.

You're lucky - I'm attracted to both the 73 and the 23. I'm doomed.

i hope im in the right place.
ok i have been looking at GEC's, UN-X-LD and was wondering if they made an approx. 4 inch closed moose pattern with a darker red bone. I have seen the stag and there very nice but i would like my first GEC to be something i keep. If they're as nice as i have seen and played with (used) they have to be magnificent new. Just hoping my holy grail is out there and not sure if im chasing a dream. I hope someone can help. If im in the wrong place, a helpful pointer in the right direction would be greatful.

It looks like Mike at collectorknives.net can hook you right up. Look for a pattern 54 moose.

Enjoy your knife crack! :D (as in "crack cocaine") Because these things are like crack. Seriously. :)

Wow exactly what i was thinking. So im not just chasing nothing. Thats amazing. Thank you kiteman.

You are very welcome! I'm glad it was what you were wanting. Mike goes by knifeswapper here on BF and is a member/dealer. Great customer service and shipping too!

I don't have any GEC mooses yet, but I have a couple Big Jacks that I really like.

We can do without the cocaine remarks.

I have seen some older well used GEC's and the had a better spring then my case knives. I want a good dependible edc folder.

Sounds like a description of the current release of the 73 Cody Scout, Single Drop Point Blade. They do have a spring!

Yes, and like most good jokes it contains a measure of truth.
I have way more GEC knives than i could use in 10 lifetimes and yet when a new GEC or Northwoods(GEC made ones) comes along, i need that one too. And now i am needing these knives with Mammoth handles which are twice as expensive as bone, wood, etc.
Maybe there are some GEC buyers who are sensible and actually feel quite satisfied by owning one or two. But if they exist, i doubt they are regulars here.
