Lets talk GEC!

I am very happy with the online dealers that I order from, but I have seen GEC in some brick and mortar stores that didn't carry it before. Good to see.

First thing, we try to keep stickies to a minimum. That said, we've got some plans for an informational sticky on traditional knife terms etc, that was suggested awhile ago. It's been percolating for a long time. It'll require some rearranging of some existing stickies and I can't guarantee it'll happen, but it's been something I've want to do for awhile now.... maybe with winter approaching...

To your question; I don't think we want to sticky a particular manufacturers thread in the traditional forum. I'd love to see a GEC sub-forum, in the Manufacturer's Forums, but that is something GEC would have to pursue. I do try and merge some of the new GEC threads, when it seems appropriate. That'll have to do for now.

Thanks Gary, that makes much more sense.

In my opinion there are way to many stickies here already. 8 stickies on the top are just to much.

In case any of you are psychics, will the #55 be made again? What does it take for GEC to make another run of a knife?

GEC seems to be cycling through the more popular patterns for additional productions runs; usually these newer versions are configured differently than the original releases (different number of blades, different main blade shape, different scale material). I'm sure we'll see a #55 again, just a matter of when and what it'll look like.

GEC makes absolutely fantastic knives IMO. They do listen and are always trying to improve their product. Yes, they make a bunch of patterns and can be difficult to keep up with, but isn't the variety great? Even many of their distributors can't stock every pattern and handle material when practically every week or two they come out with another one. Bill Howard, owner of GEC, is a master cutler and designer, and he has the means to produce some extraordinary cutlery. I'm sure there's no end to the patterns in his mind, so if you missed out on one, there will soon be something else that'll grab your attention! I say we are living in the golden age of cutlery right now with such a great, basically hand-made product available, and the future... ? Who knows!

What he said. I knew I loved them when they came out with the #15 size folder. I was already a fan buying their stuff but that cinched it right there. They are my favorite company now period.

Believe me I know the feeling :) Derrick/KSF had a #48 SFO under their Scagel line. I missed out on the bone wharncliffe ones but they still have stag and ram's horn but I can't buy those without seeing the thickness. One thing I like about the #48s is that they're slim.
KSF's pic. I know they have the tooling so I'm not sure why they haven't come out with their versions yet :(

I did manage to get a clip version of the bone though.

That is really cool! An everything knife. Whittle to clean a mess of fish to cut your steak all in one piece. Love the pocket worn look too!

Has GEC ever made a knife with the Zulu blade shape? I really like the blade shape and it is very popular with custom makers like Oeser, Dowell, Menefee, Bose, etc. but other than the curved jack by AG Russell I am not aware of any production companies that make one. (oh, and the Case/Bose collab)

Ya know, everytime I think I'm safe, GEC goes and makes something that I just want, like they read my mind or something. A "radio" knife with a clip blade and screwdriver/caplifter combo?!? That's just not fair :D I made my living as a radio/TV/electronics tech way back at the beginning of my career, and I can't find Dad's old TL-29 so that means I'm just going to have to spring for the new GEC and make it my own heirloom to give to one of my boys down the road.

Then there is the Esquire, peanut sized, double ended sleeveboard with a spear, something I do not yet have in my collection, and I just love little watch pocket sized knives. I'll tell ya, just hook up a wire between my bank account and theirs already!

Here I thought collecting knives would be cheaper than watches, LOL

I cant find anything about this on their site anymore. Anyone have any word on it? I want to see pics!! Do you think theyd ever make this with an EO?

#15 Radio – Boys Knife Tidioute Clip/Screwdriver, Bottle Opener
Rust Red Jig Bone
Antique Yellow Jig Bone
Ebony Wood
Nifebrite Acrylic

I think that is a TC Barlow wish-list for what a lot of us would like to see happen one day.

They are still coming up on the schedule. Never say never when it comes to GEC - but I would be very surprised to see two full blades in an ez open, much less a clip. Two full blades just don't lend themselves to the added convenience of the notch since you can't just grab one. Also, the clip drops near the end and doesn't lend to the notch either.

Good info! Thanks Mike

I think the quote by Sonnemann that JerryIsAlive is referencing is in regards to one full size blade and a smaller cap lifter/screwdriver secondary (as in the same configuration as the 2011 Traditional BladeForums Knife with the secondary cap lifter/screwdriver). If I am correct in my assumption, then an easy open notch would work out great in this configuration.

After reading through this thread and the #15 GEC Electrician thread a little bit, I now have in my head that the perfect TC Barlow would be an Easy Open Single Spearpoint with a lanyard hole in African Blackwood or Micarta, with the option to get it with or without a linerlock.

I missed this knife ( 09 ) when it was discussed a few months ago, depending on scales might just be the one (picturing tortoise shell acrylic for a user). On the GEC site the 09 Esquire is listed at the bottom of projects in progress, does that mean it should be out before the end of the year?

Not until at least January.

Gotta love it when you check GEC's site and they update sweet pics/knives. Yellow on the new charlows look sweet. Such a tease with the pics of #15

#71 Bullnose listed under "Whats coming next?". I love mine but wondering if I bought too soon depending on whats coming!

How out the 2 new patterns to ponder named "Viper" and "Magnum" I wonder just what the heck these will be?
